I have a new 2x10 Ghia combo. I want to use a hotplate so I can use the combo and an external cab at the same time.
Do I have to worry about Ohms. - If I have two cabs, do they have to both be 8 ohm cabs?
Is this going to hurt anything?
Does anyone out there do this?

With two 8 ohm cabs, you need a 4 ohm Hot Plate and plug it into the 4 ohm output of the amp. It will work fine that way.

Benntop,
Does this mean that I will have to buy 2 hotplates? One 8 ohm for using with the ghia combo alone, and a 4 ohm for using with the internal speakers and an external cab.
Sorry, but I get a little confused when it comes to ohms. You'd think that after playing guitar for about 20 years and owning a bunch of amps over those years, I would finally get it. Well, I guess not!
Thanks,
Matt H.

Benntop, Does this mean that I will have to buy 2 hotplates? One 8 ohm for using with the ghia combo alone, and a 4 ohm for using with the internal speakers and an external cab. Sorry, but I get a little confused when it comes to ohms. You'd think that after playing guitar for about 20 years and owning a bunch of amps over those years, I would finally get it. Well, I guess not! Thanks, Matt H. That's the way the Hot Plate is specified. I have two here as well - an 8 ohm one for my 2x12, and a 4 ohm one for my 4x12. That said, there are probably some compromises you can make. I've read several times on the Univalve.net forums that you can cheat a bit. If you have a 4 ohm Hot Plate, you can use it with 8 or 4 ohms. Just plug it into the 4 ohm output. But doing that alters the steps on the switches. I didn't want that to happen, so got two Hot Plates. The other option is to go with the Airbrake and a Y cable. If you want more detailed info about using the Hot Plate, you should give Ed DeGenaro a shout via email - he'll walk you through it. He's at ed@eddegenaro.com
