Is there a difference between the Dr.Z airbrake and the Kendrick/Trainwreck Airbrake?

I've never had the occasion to try a Z Airbrake. I have a Kendrick that I used to use a lot and a THD Hotplate. They both sound good to me. The trick is to only use as little attenuation as possible. The more you choke it the worse it sounds. THD actually modded my Hotplate to be 2 db per click intead of 4. That was much better. 4 db is too large of increments. The Tom Sholz Power Soak sucks and the marshall power Brake is only slightly better. Avoid those units. The Weber MASS may be good.

Thanks billyguitar. I think I'm going to stay with the Dr. Z

I thought the Airbrake was a licensed version of the Trainwreck unit and is essentially the same electrically. ArnieZ

ArnieZ What I've been told is that Gerald kind of updated the design, but kept it with the same spirit of tone. I'm wondering about the tonal difference as well. I had a full size MASS for 2 weeks before I sent it back. The EQ ONLY work with the DI output, and it seriously sounded thin and fizzy. I tried it on my Maz Jr. and my Marshall, and it was uninspiring on both. I'm planning to turn my MV in my Marshall to a Post Phase Inverter MV, thus eliminating the need for anything external. Luke

Hey Reaper, What settings did you use on the Weber MASS? I just finished A/B'n the Z AirBrake with the MASS and I found very little difference between the two. To me they both sounded great, I would be happy with either of the two. Raja
