Hey Miles, I have been having a discussion with various people re the airbrake and whether it is hard on valves and wears them out faster. No one seems to come up with a definitive answer except most guys say it does. I run my Route 66 pretty hard but only use small levels of attenuation if at all. (I usually start a gig on 1 and turn it off after the first set... or second song!!!) I do use it at home practising though. I hate the thought of wearing out my GEC Kt66's before their due course! I've had them in for about a year and I don't know if I'm just getting paranoid but I think I'm sensing a level drop off in the amp and a little less "girth" Of course I could just be "getting used" to the magnificent tone of the beast! and not being "blown away" every time I fire it up. Thanks.

The use of any attenuator will not cause anything to wear any faster .... it is the level the amp is set to that does this. Playing at "9" with or without the attenuator will wear the tubes just as fast. But, the attenuator allows you to play at higher levels more often, hence, faster tube wear.
