The Guitar Player review of the Air Brake says that the levels of attenuation are 3 dB at position 1 on the knob, with an additional 1.8 dB each position after that. However, the Air Brake manual states that every position brings 1.8 dB of attenuation, including the first position. Which is correct? (Maybe the GP review is about older Air Brakes, ie. with the Trainwreck logo?)

Without equipment to actually measure, we would all be guessing. I went through this same line of questioning a while back and came up with the answers posted in the Cab Specs page linked in my signature. That answer was 3db on the first click. But Dr. Z doesn't measure them when he builds them - they are built to a physical fixture that locks in the actual position of the wiper taps. So there could be some variation there. Add to that the variation from the tolerance of the components. Without spending a lot of time going through calculations, it is hard for me to say what the effect of those variables might be. The only real way to say with certainty is to measure it, and I for one don't have that gear. Maybe someone else here does?

Interesting that your findings also have the first click as 3 dB....
