I know a 3x10 speaker config. will be hard on the transformer, but has anyone tried it? I've been looking into getting a 5E7-tweed bandmaster for awhile, but thought maybe I should check the Galaxie out first. Thoughts?

my favorite sounds with the Galaxie are through 10's. I've only used the Doc's 10's; a 2x10 combo and 4x10 cab. Both are nice, the nod goes to the 4x10s. I wired it for 16 ohms so I didn't get the most out of the amp but it sounded fantastic. I've heard the Galaxie's output transformer is stout and can handle a 4 ohm load but you'd do so at your own risk. I'm a weenie when it comes to matching up ohms and tend to follow the rules. I don't go lower than recommended load if I'm pushing the amp hard. I imagine 3x10s would sound great. Doc Z did produce a Maz Super combo (or something like that) w/3x10s. Works great in a Vibroking. One of the really cool things about the Galaxie is channel 2's OD, as T-Rock calls it, "the pedal killer". You'd have to dime the bandmaster and slam the front end to get that kinda breakup and still don't think you'd get to the same place as the Galaxie on CH2. I heard the Galaxie's concept came from a Joe Walsh request as an amp starting with the Tweed Super platform.

Maybe you (or a tech) could wire the 3x10 cabinet for 8 ohms. I don't know exactly how that would work, but might be worth investigating.
The Galaxie is such a killer amp, it is perfect for so many musical styles. Kind of like a 60's Bassman or Bandmaster, but can reach higher gain levels (as stated above) and really holds together at extreme settings better than old Fender amps generally do.

Not sure about ohmage and all the tech-type stuff ... but I am curious to hear any follow-up/results/etc ... if/when the 310 cab is put into play. Personally I really used to dig my Galaxie combo with a 210 cab connected ... can only guess what a trio fo 10s would sound like, but I think it'd be purty f'n coool cheers always, eh Joel

Thanks for all the responses. I may have to call or email the good Dr himself to see what he has to say on this.
