Tubes are relatively new, but I want to have a backup set on hand. Also want to try mismatched pairs, and/or some sets with different ratings. Kinda fired up for this stuff, I have always stayed away from tube swapping, but I honestly feel that this amp is a great platform for experimentation. The simple signal path of this 2 knob wonder does make it a great platform for tube swapping...you'll hear a difference with almost every swap you make. I haven't done a lot of swapping but I like mine best with NOS 5751's in both preamp slots and GT #6 or equivalent power tubes...any GZ34/5AR4 will do but some say NOS is best. I have a NOS Mullard GZ home, any rebiasing needed? I'm going to rehearsal next week with an oven mitt and a box of tubes.

All of Dr Z's EL84 amps are self biasing...I believe they call it Cathode bias...just swap tubes and go!

Great week/jams with the Z again.
Found a pile of EL84's on TGP, had some JJ's in it last night, gonna try a mismatched set of GT's next week.
No luck with the right pedal in front of it. Added a HBE Power Screamer (Tube Screamer) to the 'board last night, and the massive midrange hump kinda made the whole rig "shrink". Gonna try some other low gainers next week (Lovepedal AMP50, Cmatmods Butah).

I find a Keeley modded BD2 is pretty hard to beat for what I do.

The Butah work well? The clip on their site is awesome, no mid hump, very nice tones... I'm getting a Lovepedal AMP50 too, might be redundant with the Butah though...

The Cmatmods Butah is one of my favorite pedals !!!!!! Your gonna love it !! Finally got the Butah on the board. Nice pedal! Ran everything about noon, tone a little higher. Great LO Gain tones. Stacked OK with the HBE Power Screamer, getting an Amp50 this week. Good stuff! The 'Rati is still number one. I found a pile of tubes to try in it, but I actually am just happy playing it as is....

You've got a great amp there!
Mine is a 2x10 combo with a Brake Lite, and it sounds great! As you adjust the attenuator, you may want to tweak the tone setting (super simple with a single knob!). That's a normal consequence of the change in volume, because as volume drops our ears do not detect bass sounds as easily. That's why radios have a "Loudness" button - to increase the bass at low volume levels.
Enjoy - the Mazerati is perfect for the music you do!

Man this amp really reacts to what is in front of it. I really experienced the "mid hump" of a TS type circuit, so much so that I pulled the Power Screamer off the board, it just "shrunk" the amp too much!
I'm stacking a Lovepedal Amp50 into a Butah, but it's not working for me, just too "clean". Gonna try a fuzz of some sort in front of the Butah or Amp50 for a bit. Also gonna try a higher gained OD like the Hotcake this week....

Yeah, I got a long list to try...
Butah is out, last night I just cranked the Amp50 and used that alone. The Hotcake was OK, nothing special though, really added a lot of lower mids and bass.
I have an Xotic BB+ on the way, sounds like a fun pedal...
