Leant my KT45 to a friend for his gigs over the weekend and he doesn't want to give it back. He took the KT45, airbrake, a 210 cab with golds that I made for him, along with a matching 210 cab with greenbacks. He was playing with his favorite 60s strat.
His main amp at the moment is a badcat (cub II from memory) with a vintage 30 in it (he also has/or has recently sold, a matchless dc30, 60 vox ac30, blackface princeton, 18w marshall 1974 (from the 60s too I think), and a fender deluxe.
On the saturday night he set the badcat up with the golds, and set the kt45 with the airbrake and greenbacks. He had another guitarist sit in for a bit and use the badcat, and he ended up using the kt45 for the rest of the night.
Next day he used the kt45 with the golds was again blown away. He was so impressed with how he could get the 3 3 3 tones at smaller gig level using the airbrake and/or the guitar volume knob.
He also borrowed my z dvd the other week and is doing his homework. He will probably get a Z in the near future (if I ever get mine back). He likes the thick tones and was considering a z28, but might now be looking at a route 66 or kt45 based on his success with the airbrake. Originally he wanted the maz 18 (and after the dvd, the z-wreck).
My kt45 is set up with JJ el34s at the moment, and in real terms it is cheap to swap power tubes a bit more frequently if hammering them with the airbrake. I'd never used the airbrake with the kt45, and was surprised. I think it sounds better with the kt 45 than with my 4 x el84 amp.
And other people were asking about the Z too
