Is the SRZ-65 too much power for a vintage Celestion G12-65 in a 1-12 Avatar cabinet to handle? I know the speaker is rated at 65 watts but the SRZ is seems pretty robust in the output department......... (I am using an Airbrake most of the time).

I swapped out a Vin 30 in one of my Convertible cabs and put in a Celestion Heritage G12-65. I don't use an Air Brake w/ my SRZ, and I haven't had an issue yet.
I guess if you're diming the MV w/out an attenuator, you could damage that speaker. But w/ the Air Brake, I'm sure you're fine.
At times, and in bigger clubs or outdoor stuff, I use a 2X12 cab loaded w/ Weber C1225 and C1230. The cab's wattage rating is only 50 watts (twice the lower rated speaker), and I run pretty loud through that cab w/ no problems.

I use a Celestion Gold 1x12 rated at 50 watts , No Problem with my SRZ sounds KILLER TOO!!!! The G-65 will handle it no problem, the SRZ will do 50 watts realistically even though its labeled 65 watts , Pushing it with OD pedals may be another story , I use a TImmy or a BB with mine just to send it into mayhem! Sounds AHHHH! AWESOME!

I think you will be fine with the G1265. It should handle the SRZ with no problem.

Shouldn't be a problem, the G12-65 should be fine- I have a convertible Z 1x12 with a G12-65 and it works fine with the SRZ. However, it is not the best sound, in my opinion.
Try a 2x12 or 4x12- a Dr. Z Z-Best, a Marshall 1936A, an Orange 4x12, a Germino, etc. I really love multi speaker cabs with the SRZ...try it and compare! And if you end up using the G12-65 (which does sound good too) don't forget to break the G12-65 in A WHOLE BUNCH. They sound so stiff and harsh for the first 20-30 hours it seems to me.

mtlrecords is very right, The SRZ is like to breathe, I recently picked up a Late 60's at the latest 73ish Rola Celestion G12-80 OMG!!!!!!! This dude kills! with my SRZ , My Ray and yes even with my lil cheezy 1x12 EL34 PCB grab and go Marshall I use for practice and jam nights! I'd like to try that Germino 45! I hear they are Amazing. I just dont have the Funds right now! I sure would consider a Remedy though first. My Z's are Bullet Proof Night after Night! Gig after Gig!

When I'm using a single 12", I use the G12-65 in a Z Convertible (closed back config). It's my favorite speaker to use w/ the SRZ in a 1X12 cab. My favorite cab to use w/ the SRZ is an Avatar 2X12 loaded w/ Weber C1225 and C1230 (Weber's versions of the older Greenbacks).
The G12-65 was originally intended to be a higher wattage Greenback type speaker. To my ears, it comes close. It actually has a little better bottom end than my actual Greenbacks. It's kind of like the Celestion Blue/Gold comparison. The Gold is no Blue. It has some of the qualities of the Blue, but it sounds different and is a great speaker in it's own right
A Marshall type amp and a Greenback type speaker(s) is truly a classic pairing. In my opinion, the G12-65 is the best Greenback type speaker you can use in a 1X12 configuration w/ the SRZ.
