Hey Guys just curious to know how a Mini Z compares to a Carmen Ghia with a Brakelite. I have the latter. It sounds incredible but even with full attenuation I really can't enjoy the great Z gain at household volumes (I can't really go beyond 9:00 vol setting). I'm thinking a Mini Z might just be the answer to my home-jamming needs! :-)

You can get bedroom volume overdriven/gain tones with a Mini Z. There is however little to no useable headroom.
You could also try a different attenuator. I use a Ho Attenuator. It brings my Two Rock Jet Sig. (20W w/ 6v6) to bedroom volume. I haven't tried the Air Brake but hear good things. Don't know if it "attenuates" more than the Brakelite.

I have both...the Mini is the ticket. You could even use your BL coupled with the built in attenuator to really bring it down.
As for headroom, I recently changed out the preamp tube to a 12AT7 and it added way more to the Mini but it will still scream when it's dimed...worth checking out...

Thanks guys. I used to have the Epiphone Valve Jr. head and it never did the trick for me because A.) it didn't take pedals that great, B.) in the bedroom I couldn't get a dirty tone out of it at a reasonable volume and C.) in a jam setting there was nowhere near enough headroom for playing with a band. I think the Mini-Z with it's built-in attenuation would be just perfect. I think I'm leaning toward the 110 combo. As much as I love the head/cab versatility, I hate having to make 2 trips to my car for rehearsals, which if I bring a pedal board is usually necesarry.

A Weber Mini Mass attenuator will bring the Ghia down to a whisper. I use one with mine and it works great. What speaker is in the Mini Z combo? A Z?

I'm thinking about putting one in a 1x10 cab to use with my Mini Z 8" combo.
