...on a Surf Green Monza head from Humbucker Music!
This is a gift to myself for 2 reasons:
1) I passed my state life & health insurance licensing exams on the first try with only 2 weeks to study & prepare. I'm pretty proud of that!
2) I just got out of the cardiac unit after a virus or allergic reaction beat the hell out of my heart, leaving all the fallout of a heart attack...without the heart attack. And it ain't over yet!
I love my Maz 18 NR, but I really think the Monza is what I have waited for for years!

I was THIS close to going for the head. Enjoy--and sorry about all the bad luck with the heart thing. Very scary, all that.

Hey man, 1) congratulations!! You've every right to be proud! 2) real sorry to hear about the suffering. At least if they know what it is, they can treat it They say a happy and contented person is a healthier person, and treating yourself to the joys of a Monza will keep a smile on your face LONG after this heart problem is gone - enjoy every minute of it! Cheers Pete ;D

And it ain't over yet! I love my Maz 18 NR, but I really think the Monza is what I have waited for for years! What State did you get a licence for. I started out in Life & Health in 83. In 87 they went to a graded form of commission so to survive I got int the Investment market as well. Best move I ever made. Just a piece of advice: Most people don't make it in this business. The reason they don't is they try and re-event the wheel. If the guy training you is making money listen to what he says and do what he says. Don't try to figure out an easier way. There is no such thing. Whoever your associated with. Listen to the guy making the most money. It's strickly a numbers came. You always going to get more No's than yes answers. So your goal should be to get as many No's as you can. The no's are what you want. We all get them. So make that your goal and the yes's just fall into place. ( and I know this sounds silly-but it works) Whether your making appointments or your in a house selling. No's are what you want. When your first starting no matter how bad you are. You'll get one out of 10. So your goal should be get thru those 9 no's as fast as you can. And by no means solicit your friends and relatives. Wait from them to come to you. Just advise : If you don't want it good luck anyway. Good money if it works out for you

Looking forward to your "first impressions" report. First impression: Glad I own an Airbrake! LOL! Seriously great sustain from this beast. I spent Thursday afternoon with my new Monza running through an open-backed, Celestion Vintage 30 loaded Lopo Line cabinet, playing my PRS McCarty Standard. This is a serious amp, people. lots of gain, but it doesn't get mushy with chords. You can hear every note in a five or six note open chord, and it isn't harsh at all. Pick attack WILL change up the sound, and as I said: the drive doesn't mask mistakes (drat!). Guitar volume knob will clean the amp up, but how clean depends on how high the drive knob is, obviously. Only nit to pick: with the Airbrake on Bedroom level, if I played something high up on the neck using the neck pickup, there was a woofy overtone that wasn't present at other attenuation levels or with no Airbrake. All in all, the perfect amp for rockers or blues players in the Bonamassa, as opposed to Vaughan, vein

I have the Airbrake too but I prefer the Monza unattenuated to get its best. Very big sounding 20 watter! Love this amp. Congrats!

Forgive my ignorance, but the Celestion Vintage 30 is a 12" speaker, right?

Yep, the V30 is a 12" speaker.
Lopo Line will load cabs with V30s or Eminence Texas Heat speakers. My next Lopo may have the Eminence...

Just occurred to me:
I wanna give a big shout out to the guys at Humbucker Music in Georgia. I purchased the Monza from them and the communication was great, the shipping was fast, and the packaging was superb! I highly recommend them, and Eddie's Guitars in St. Louis, MO for your Z Needs.

A pleasure to deal with--happy to do a layaway over the phone, called me when they had a question about my address, shipped the day I paid off the amp. Assuming it'll arrive in the original Z-foam packaging, so not anticipating any problems. Would definitely order from them again. I've also had good luck with Willcutt Guitars in KY--they've got a great website, too, with lots of purty geetars. I've bought Z amps from Musictoyz in ME, too, with no problems, though in other transactions communications with them have been a little iffy.

OK, I just spent a couple hours wit the Monza, Air Brake, a G&L SC-2, a G&L ASAT Special, and a Reverend Jetstream HB.
Wow.
That "fizz" around notes I mentioned earlier is only at the highest of gain setting with the Air Brake on Maximum Bedroom settings. Back off the gain, back off the Air Brake...
...and weep with joy.

I noted that same fizz or "zingy" harmonic/overtone at the very upper end of the Monza's sound, too, under pretty much the same conditions: Brakelite cranked, drive cranked or nearly cranked, inmy case w/ single coils. Back off the Brakelite and it's much diminished. Got me wondering about power tubes--haven't pulled them out yet to have a look. The fact that the Monza's cathode-biased means it might be getting a nice matched pair of JJs before too long.
