Well I was wanting to get a Z-28 for a long time... I was fixin' to hit the sack last night ...when I just "strolled" by TGP for the heck of it... And there right before my very eyes was a red Z-28 head...this is exactly "the amp" I was wanting! It's for sale by a cat that is on 3 different forums that I'm a member of, & have had "conversations" with in the past... hoping to get it here in the next week or so... Should be MTY COOL!

As a Maz Jr owner since '98, I made a very impulsive buy on my Z28 after reading this forum. I just ordered mine over the phone from Make n' Music in Chicago and it arrived the next day. The following week I added the 2x10 cab from Flynns Guitars in Evanston.
Man this was the best "blind" purchase I have ever made. My bandmates agree that the Z28 is way cool for our blues band and our other guitar player is definitely jealous. I have been getting some great sounds with my '59 relic tele with the Callaham bridge and Rio Grande Muy Grande pickups. I am pretty much playing my Z28 clean and using my Fulltone Fat Boost or FD2 to create my lead tones (just a bit of crunch nothing to over the top).

Congrats! The Z-28 is a killer.
A question: tasweigan said in his post that you have a 3x10 cabinet. Is that a standalone cab or is it a combo? I've been interested in finding a 3x10 standalone.
Let me know and enjoy!

Zane, have you tried the mini through that cab? No the cab is a little over 4ohms...5 point somethin'...I run it throught the 4ohm jack...don't know if it'd hurt the Mini's tranny ...Myles said I could run an 8ohm speaker in parrallel with 2 of the 16ohm speakers, & it'd make the cab 8ohms might be somethin' I do in the future...I bet the Mini would sound purty cool thru it ;^)

Hey Big Mike ...is that the Black Fender grill cloth? My brother is gonna build me a cab & I've ordered some Black fender cloth...can't find any that matches the DR's "salt & pepper" but I think were gonna do some "different" stuff with this cab...can't wait to see what it looks like ;^)

Yeah my brother & I used that cloth on another "project"...when side by side it really doesn't match that well....plus it's "basketweave" & is real thick & hard to work with...thanks for the thought ;^)

Maybe AES can help? It may be kinda hard to determine true salt&pepperness on my CRT, but they have this sampler....meh, that link is like 20 feet long...check out www.tubesandmore.com and drill down to the grill cloth section...

I post pix when it's finished ...I think it's gonna be cool if it turns out like we've planned... stay tuned ya'll ;^)

Good luck with it Zane.
The Z-28 is my FAV , I hope you dig it as well.
You might want to look into a Dario EF-86 from Mike at KCA , I use them in all new amps now.

I'll do that DR ...I meant to ask the cat what the serial # was...he said he was gonna get it boxed up, so it may be to late... been lurkin' in the "28" section for a while...trying to get up to snuff...I'm hoping he's got the original tubes & such so I can just swap out the power tubes without to much hassle... wish I could've bought new ...but funds are kinda hard to come by in "zaneville" at the moment...cause I chose to get on a day run, and get off nights...not much OT in daytime "trucking"

Sorry for the late check in....
Knobs/ Grill cloth are stock from Z. I asked for black cloth, and that's what I got. I think the knobs are similar to the MXR knobs. Looks great though. I don't care for Salt/pepper myself, so this is what I asked for.
I do like tan/pepper though. That's pretty sexy.
