Ok, the SRZ came in yesterday, just in time for a gig. The venue was a nice, fairly small/mid-size rock venue with a great P.A. and by the time we played there were 150+ people. Which meant I could be LOUD. YESSSS!!!!
So I stacked my new SRZ-65 on top of my EZG-50 (red, naturally) and ran them into my stereo Marshall 1936 cabinet with a custom A-B-Y box. This might be my FAVORITE combintation ever. Unbelievable!
I will have some experimenting to do in order to level match and truly get these amps to work together, but even with no prep time I got some amazing sounds out of this amp. Very, very Marshall sounding, but with so many more sweet spots than my Plexi and more pleasing gain than any of the JCM 800s I have played.
Now I just need a custom road case to hold both these beasts!

Congrats! Sounds like a great gig! You're right about the SRZ having the JCM800 tones and so much more. It's a spectacular amp. I've been bouncing back and forth between it and the Delta 88. Occasionally I get to run them together in a stereo rig. Great stuff there! Enjoy that SRZ!

MTLRECORDS!!!! I'm so glad to hear you finally got the SRZ!!! WOW what a combination the SRZ and an EGZ?? WOW!!!! I use to use my Super Reverb In a Head enclosure for a while and used the Fender for Cleans and the SRZ for Gain. My SRZ has Reverb so I just got it back from the DR he did a Foot switchable On off Mod on the reverb, WOW what a huge Difference! I can now get more Old school Plexi sounds out of it but when I need the Reverb Its at my Feet! I'm very Excited for you, you'll continue to find more and more tones out of the SRZ! It has great Master Volume, So if you want that Plexi Sound Turn the Gain to about 10:00-NOON and crank the Volume, Its ala Marshall 1987X The 50 watt plexi Version and then some. Keep us posted

Thanks for the kind words! I couldn't be happier with this amp!
Of all the Dr. Z amps I have played and owned, this is my favorite. I think people assume it will be too much power (which I am sure it can be for some) but it has the best Master Volume in the Z-line up (IMO) and it can cover a much wider spectrum of distorted sounds than you might expect.
Now my toughest decision is HOW to use the SRZ. I have normally gone with a two amp setup with a slightly dirty amp and a clean amp with verb. My first inclination was to use the EZG-50 for my rhythm tones and then click on the SRZ for leads or loud passages. But the SRZ sounds so good I am thinking of using IT for rhythm tones instead...plus there is my pedalboard and distortion/fuzz pedals! My whole rig is going to get some major tweaking- but it is for the best!

I think I would us ethe EGZ for cleans, Then Use the SRZ for Teh dirty stuff. I used my SRZ for the longest time and set the Gain at about 10:00 oclock semi clean and then pushed it into mayhem with pedals , But That to me was like driving a Top Fuel Dragster slow then hitting the Gas at the last 1/8 of a mile. The goods are within the gain, about noon- 3Oclock, It will still clean up depending on your guitars and pickups etc... But either way? You could run the SRZ at about Noon and Run them in strero, and crank them both with say a BB or Plexitube OD wow You talk about HUGE! the OVERDRIVEN Sounds of a 6L6 and an EL34. Man that would sound sweet! Lot of power at you r fingers, )

Yeah, the problem is I have TOO MANY GREAT OPTIONS! Good problem to have.
I was thinking I would use the EZG-50 for rhythm tones too, but I realized that in the context of my current band (all originals, loud, indie rock with vocals), I almost never play anything clean. So why rely on the EZG for cleans, when the cranked tone of the EZG is so amazing?
Then again, running the EZG clean with a Fulltone OCD is a monster tone too...see my dilemma? Again, thanks for the suggestions!

Again, thanks for the suggestions! Run the SRZ with the EZG in true stereo, not an AB set-up. Set them both on the brink of break-up so you can adjust w/ your guitar's volume knob and your attack. Kick the OCD for some all out nastiness and searing leads. That would be pretty cool... British and American Big Bottled TONE! ;D

Update:
Still looking into a dual Z holding custom road case (might be $400 based on my quotes so far) and I am loving the SRZ even more with all this time on spent on it. It is possibly the best Z amp...really.
I am stunned at the quality of tones I continue to pull out of this sucker each time I play! I have noticed that I like it with humbucker equipped guitars SLIGHTLY better, mainly because with the gain cranked, there is a little less idle noise. But my Jazzmaster likes it too- I am definitely NOT saying Jazzmasters, Strats and Teles don't sound great- they do. Just a bit more noise and maybe a tiny less "ooohmph" on certain settings, in my humble opinion.
SRZ rules- period
