Wondering how the 1x10 Mini compares to the old 1x8 combo in terms of tone. Does the larger speaker get rid of the excessive high end sizzle I remember the 1x8 had? Anyone have one yet?

Mine arrived on Thursday... Loving it! Never played a 1x8 but I can tell you the 1x10 sounds great. I've also played it through a 1x12 with a Greenback, predictably the Greenback had more bass but was not as tight. As far as "excessive high end sizzle" goes I haven't noticed any.

scottyd...
Are you playing the Mini with singles, buckers or both? I only use buckers so any additional info you can provide regarding the type of gear you are using will be greatly appreciated. What dealer did you get yours from?

Playing with both buckers and singles and my LP has push/pull for coil splitting... Sounds good with all combos I've tried. The LP is a Epi Ultra I've put a Duncan hot rodded humbucker set in and it has tons of sustain with this amp but can get a little muddy when cranked (compared to my CV tele with Nocaster pups, which don't have nearly the output)... I've got Phillips military 12au7 and 12at7 tubes on the way to try them out.
I got mine from Humbucker music... Great to deal with! They notified me when they got a blonde in and shipped it very quickly!
Oh and the combo in parallel with the Avatar/Greenback seems to me to great tone, more bass response but still tighter than the 1x12 alone. I like the combo alone a lot though.
Hope that helps.

scottyd...
Any chance you would be able to do a short video or audio clip of the Mini 1x10 with buckers? Do some chord strumming and a little lead playing with the attenuator off.

I had the older 1X8 combo (had to sell for bills) and played it usually through my 1X12 or 1X10 ext cab. Just had a nicer bottom end. The 8 inch sounded good when I could play in a big room but for home use and bedroom always liked a bigger speaker. I think the new one should sound spot on. JMO Rik

The Mini is a fab amp...surprises me every time I plug her in. I have the mini head plugged into a 1x12 open back G12H and it sounds superb. I'd say the mini combo has all you will ever need in tone. Mic'd up through the PA for gigs though

I remember liking the 1x8 Mini but wished the sizzle was not there when turing up past 3 o'clock. I'm reasonably sure the sound I was hearing had to do with the 1x8 speaker rather than the tone of the circuit. Too bad I don't have a dealer close by. If I were to buy the amp "blind" and didn't like the sound of it I would be responsible for a 10% restocking fee plus the amount it would cost to ship it back. In a perfect world I would be able to own as many amps as I wanted, but I must choose only one. I only play at home and I never gig. I can't seem to find any good videos on Youtube on a Mini (head or 1x10) being played with humbuckers and playing chords.

Got a sick pup at home so I haven't had much time to noodle around, made a coupla recordings with the built in mic on my computer but it didn't do the amp justice! (clipped at high volumes) I'll try again tomorrow.

Ah, thats ok don't worry about it. I may end up getting the Mini after all. Worst case I have to return it and pay the 10% restocking fee.

After some tube experimentation I have spent quite a bit of time with a JAN-Phillips 12au7 in the preamp and I've noticed something strange...
The volume knob seems to be stuck in the WFO position! (and I can't stop smiling) ;D ;D ;D

Here's Buddy playing through a mini-Z but hey, he could play through a cardboard box and it would probably sound good

I bought a mini Z off of a forum member last week. I've had it a couple of days now, and have been playing through it non-stop. This thing is a blast!

Those video/audio files of Buddy are the old style 1x8 combo. I'm interested in the new 1x10 combo.
