How pedal friendly is the Dr. Z Monza? Without a pedal, can she be pretty dirty; Led Zep sound?
Loud?
Thanks in advance, <S>

Thanks...But was he using a pedal? <S> I'm pretty sure that was guitar straight to amp...I haven't tried any pedals with mine, and I can tell you that this thing screams on its own.

Welcome aboard.
99% sure no pedal was involved in Frankie's demo. You probably can send him a personal message (PM) and nail it down. His username is starrman.
Monza is very loud, very gain-y, cleans up a bit with guitar volume control. It takes pedals fine, but the natural overdrive and sustain the amp can generate lets you eliminate the usual "dirt boxes" from the signal chain.
A Brake Lite (Dr Z amp attenuator) is highly, highly recommended.

Thanks...But was he using a pedal? <S> No pedal! Guitar - lead - amp!! (I asked Frankie that first time I heard the video ;D ) Elsewhere I've heard people talk about using a clean boost to OD the amp, rather than dirt boxes, so you can wind things back a bit for cleaner headroom, and then hit it with clean boost. I'll try and find who did this, but it sounds perfectly feasible. Cheers Pete ;D

Thanks...But was he using a pedal? <S> No he wasn't using a pedal. I've used a Bad Monkey and a Boosta Grande in front of it(separately)and it sounds great. I set the Volume at 10am and drive at 1pm. Mildly boost cause a little goes along way with an amp that has plenty of toneful saturation. I even used my EMG(81/60)loaded guitar with the pedals and it still sounded clear with even more thump. Click off pedal and roll guitar volume back a bit and there are some decent cleans to be had IMO. Especially with a lil' delay added.

For some reason, people just don't seem to buy the notion that 20 watts of DR Z MONZA is LOUD!
Trust us here people, the Monza is loud!!!
I mean, my 100 watt Marshall would outpace it any day, but the Monza is much louder (and better sounding) than many of the low watt amps out there (i.e. Tiny Terror, Night Train, etc.). This is a legitimate gigging amp and in fact, most likely you will be best served with a brake lite in a combo. Believe!

I think the Doc needs to define a new power term for the electronics industry - the "Z Watt (ZW)". I've been through the Marshall / Fender / Orange / Vox thing like most folk on here, and although there are some great amps in that collection, Watt for Watt, Z amps are astonishing! When I rock up with my "little 18W" Maz combo, everyone ignorant of Z amps sort of snigger - until playtime! Then jaws hit floors in unison! Now if my Maz is 18ZW and is LOUD; and the Monza is 20ZW? Go figure! Can't wait to play one!!! Pete ;D
