or ...
Some first experiences.
I don't really know where to begin, but I can tell you that I don't have any buyer's remorse whatsoever.
This amp is unlike any other I've played. It hears my guitar in what seems like a whole new way. For instance, I've never used all my guitar controls like I do with this amp. It feels like they have a whole lot more range. I'm nearly convinced that I don't need any distortion-type pedals as a result of that. If I dial the amp in "hot," I get access to a whole range of tone and color, from clean to some dirt under the fingernails kind of thing, to great crunch, to a great fat lead sound, all controlled by the guitar and some technique. I mean, this isn't really new in electric guitar, but it seems so prevalent for some reason.
I'm using a Heritage 335-type guitar, with some selected Duncan pickups, splittable.
ok, this is the part of the post I originally cut out because this seems long, but my story didn't seem finished...if this is long by now, please feel free to stop reading. I can't seem to be able to control myself...this is just fun!
I'm using a Heritage 335-type guitar, with some selected Duncan pickups, splittable. I seem to be arriving at a "base tone" (i.e. cleaner rhythm) using both pickups, output set low-to-middle, tone not all the way up, and the back pickup is often split. With these settings, I just whip up a volume control and vooom, there's big fat lead or crunch and everything in between! It really does go "vooom" too. Unsplit the p'up and watch out! Favor the front pickup and it's huge! The blending is great. I'm happy.
Between this practically newfound versatility in the guitar's controls, mated with the versatility in the amp's controls...well, I can't yet imagine what else I'd really need (I'm sure I'll have GAS soon enough). I find that I'm only really using chorus, delay, and the occasional compression now. And those only for color. I could probably do a gig without pedals in this cover band, but I'd feel somehow dishonest to the material.
I'll be honest, this amp has bad qualities too. I'm losing sleep messing around with it. My practice regimen is totally shot. My neighbors I'm sure at least resent me (seems like there are lots of people moving out of my building). I've barely touched any of my other guitars. I've barely touched any other amp. I've barely touched my girlfriend.
Well, I thought I'd share my good time with you all, cheers!
