I'm looking at getting a new cabinet for my EZG50. The question is should I go for a 4X10 cabinet or for a 1X12? I have a 1X12 now in the old style with a vintage 30 in it. If I go for a newer style cabinet should I get a G12H30 or a Celestion Blue? I really like the 1X12 sound with the amp but should I go away and get the 4X10? I also have a 2X10 old style cabinet that I use but I lean towards the 1X12 mainly. I do run them together and they sound good together.
My other option is to keep my 1X12 cabinet and change out the speaker with a G12H30 or a Celestion Blue. Both of my cabinets are the old style smaller cabinets. Will the larger cabinet have a different sound or should I stick with the smaller cabinet? The smaller one is definately easier to lug around.
HELP???

Maybe a 1x15 if you already have a 1x12.
Here's a write-up on the Vibro verb
"In early 1963, Fender Electric Instruments offered its first guitar amp with on-board reverb. Called the Vibroverb, this amp was essentially a Fender Super with reverb. However, by the end of the year, the 2x10" model was discontinued and a completely new Vibroverb was offered. This model resembled Fender's Pro model with on-board reverb and had typical "blackface" appointments including LDR type tremolo. It sported a single 15 inch Jensen or JBL speaker and pumped out 40 watts of power. Despite its excellent sound, the second Vibroverb was also short-lived and was discontinued by the end of 1964. It is possible that during that time, Fender's other amplifiers, the Super Reverb, Vibrolux Reverb and Twin Reverb, were simply more popular and outsold the Vibroverb. Perhaps 1x15 combo amps had fallen out of favor by 1964. Despite its past performance record, the 1x15 Vibroverb has become a favorite amp of blues guitarists, most notably the late Stevie Ray Vaughan, and has attracted the attention of collectors for its sound and rarity. In fact, 1x15 reverb combo amps seem to be in favor once again as evidenced by models offered by current manufacturers, as well as by home made Vibroverb clones ("Vibroclone") that use Fender Pro, Super or Bandmaster Reverb chassis in a 1x15 combo cab."
Last year at Z-Fest they had a 1x15 cab - great sounding with the EZG.
BTW - I do play my EZG through my Z-28 4x10 Combo - it does sound great!

Does Dr Z make a 1X15 cabinet? If he did I would defiantely look into it but it doesn't seem like he does or has any plans to in the future. I defiantely want a Z cab to go with the amp.

The EZ and Z 4x10 are truly a match made in heaven. If you already have a 1x12, I think it's an absolute no-brainer.

My Z 1x12 convertible cabinet is a couple months old and still being broken in. I like it OK, but it is the least favorite of my cabs. I am hoping that some more breaking in will really help the Celestion G12-65 sound a bit better and less harsh over time. It is getting there...
Everyone seems to like the 4x10, which totally makes sense- the EZG is VERY FENDER sounding. With that said, I am pretty happy with it through a 2x12- Marshall 1936, Bogner 2x12, Dr. Z Z-Best, 65 Amps 2x12, Germino 2x12- all of these rock with the EZG!

I owned an EZG-50 and had multiple Z cabs to experiment with.
By far the 4x10 was optimal. All the other cabs sounded ok, but compared A/B to the 4x10 it wasn't even close.
It was more of a "I could settle for using the other cabs if I wasn't going to be allowed to be loud".
But based on tone alone...not even close. 4x10 just delivered tone in spades.

could someone please give a round-about idea of the difference in tone between a 4x12 and a 4x10 with the EZG? I'm looking into this amp to pair it with my Maz and I'm not sure on what cab would suit this amp best

I'm leaning towards ordering a 4X10. Will it still sound good at bedroom volumes or does it only sound good at stage volumes? I play alot in my basement right now and am wondering if it is woeth it to go for the 4X10.

It is really no contest between the 1X12 convertible and the open back 4X10 (in my house, with my Strat, G&L Legacy, or my Tele). I love my 1X12 convertibles (with the Maz or the Ghia) but the 4X10 is the one for the EZG-50.

Hey Scottstrat! Muzacman02 here, I still have that G12H30 Its rocking thanks again, However, You will fry a Celestion Blue with that amp. The blue is only rated at 15 watts, If you're looking for that sound? Then go with a Celestion Gold or What I have found very Good too, Is the Eminence Redfang. Its a little different than Gold but not much they are the same but each has it's own thing its like American British to me, I have been wanting an EGZ Head, however I already have a Blackface amp a 67' Super Reverb, Which I know the EGZ is its own amp and then some.... If you want the best of both worlds? 4x10! but use all alinicos or blend them, That's exactly what I did with my Super Recently 2- weber Alnicos and 2 eminence Ramrod Redcoats in ceramic, It has nice headroom still but will get nasty if I want it to! Keep me posted I'd like to know what you end up with, Thanks Jamie

Hey Brightlight, The EGZ would sound HUGE through a 4x12 Cab! I can only imagine, I own 2 4x12's and I also have an old Super Reverb which I had in a head enclosure and ran through my Boogie Cab Loaded with 2 EVM/L's and 2- Mojotone BM 25's basically Hotrodded Greenbacks and it Kicked Major A$$ !!! However if your wanting the Fenderish Sound the 4x10 is the way to go, Its loud Punchy, and very tight. Depending on what Speakers you use? I have never Owned a 4x10 Z cab , But I'm using Alnico Webers and 2 Ceramic Eminence Ramrods in my Super Reverb and it has it all - Bite, great Mids, and Very Nice Bottom end, very Tight. DR Z's 10"s are amazing i have been told? and there's a ton of great 10's on the market , So Basically it depends on what Style music you're palying through the EGZ? Hope this helped?

^ that makes sense, I have been reading that the EZG-50 is a very bassy amp. I imagine 10" speakers would tighten that up a bit. Sounds like the EZG-50 and 4x10 would cover my music very well

Mine is just heaven with the 1x15 cab....I got mine from Mojo Musical, and it matches the tolex and grill of the Z head. It big , fat and juicy ! I tried the 4x10, it would be my second choice. The 15 cab sounds real smoothe and Huge !!! Dig....
