My tax return is due on friday so I'll be getting a Mini soon... I have a decision to make though, should I get the head and use it with my avatar 1x12 loaded with a greenback or go for the new 1x10 combo? What do you guys think?

Head. It has an attenuator built into it. Plus, through a Z Best it's plain scary.

I like separate components. Versatility is a good thing.

Since you already have a cab, a Head is a practical way to go, but it really comes down to you and how you want your gear configured. For me it comes down to space issues, and I have a cab with a Clestion Gold and also have a spare G12H30 that I can put in there, so both my incomming MAZ18 NR Head and the Mini-Z head that I kept over the original Mini-Z combo can be accomodated. At some point I see a Monza in my future, so I'll be asking the same musical question as you....head or combo. Since I have an Airbrake and a cab with 2 speaker options, it is likely that I'll get a Monza head and stick with the theme...but those little 1-10 combos with the Red Fang & Brakelite look like such a neat total package and they are not very imposing size wise. Same with a Mini-Z combo which I believe you can get in the same general package.
Bottom line: Personal preference...it's ergonomics.

I really had no intention of getting a combo until I saw the blondes on-line, just looks sweet and seems like a great grab and go. Definitely have to think about it a little...

The 1x10 combo is pretty compact and a great grab and go... TRUE grab and go. I'd go for the combo and you can always use it with another cab bypassing the 10" if you wanted to.

Scarcely bigger than a head.

Does anybody know if the combos are made in a way that they can be used with the 1x10 cabs also?

Thanks bluzman... but to clarify I mean can the 1x10 speaker cab be used in conjunction with the speaker in the combo like a miniature 2x10 stack. Looking at pics it would seem as though there would have to be some type of splitter used because there is only a single output, but I could be wrong.

Actually I see in that pic the answer to my question!... I should looked before I typed. No worries as you have a valid question. If you buy a Combo 1x10 with a chassis you don't get the speaker jack cup. When you buy the 1x10 Speaker Cab that is Combo compatible you get the speaker jack cup. As you can see I have the Brakelite going to the speaker and parallel to the jack cup. If I want to add another 8 ohm load I put the BrakeLite into the 4 ohm and stack the cabs.

You're right but, that means people would have to understand a little bit about speaker loading and which jack to use on the chassis. My friend broke his old Bassman head a few times that way back in the day when he would just plug in speakers.

I sure like the looks of that combo, I think I'll be ordering a blonde by the end of the week! I can see your point on the speaker impedance issue though... Of course its just as hazardous to have a head where the end user decides for himself which jack to plug into.
