Howdy folks! My BB preamp loves the mini Z however my Hermida Reverb not so much (which loves my Maz 18). In your experience what other pedals go well with your Mini? Also want to mention that she sounds mighty fine on her own but I'm going all out lately and have took the plunge and bought a Voodoo labs Pedal Power plus 2 along with a posh Pedaltrain junior board. It needs stocking up so what do you good folks suggest? I have already a Sonic research strobostomp, Hermida Reverb, MXR CC,Xotic BB Preamp and prescription Electronics Facelift fuzz. Also suggestions on patch cables for the board would be great too.

An orphan pedal that I had laying around actually sounded pretty amazing with my Mini... A Danelectro Wasabi Overdrive. I was knocked for a loop, but I'm way too much of a boutique snob.
My Fulldrive FDII and RTO both sound great, as does my Frog mod Analog Man SD-1. I should also say that I usually run a low gain preamp tube, like a 12AU7 to tame the fizz a little.

I had a Mini-Z combo and got a Mini head and had both on hand for a few months before I sold the combo. I tried a Lovepedal Eternity Burst with both and just loved the thick tones with both setups.
The Lovepedal is pretty darn good out in front of a MAZ18 too.

Actually I run a 12AY7 which knocks the gain of the amp down quite a bit. I think it improves the overall tone of this amp as well... much more woody sound... ;D! The plexidrive is run at a low gain setting to add some grit... sounds good for low volume stuff!

It sounds incredible with the mini... I like the amp set about 2 o'clock and the dragon about the same, with the volume rolled back on the guitar for a cleaner sound it adds just a little bite and with the guitar dimed it pushes the amp into high gain with out messing with the tone. Just like the man says "your sound just more". BTW I'm running a 12ay7 in the Mini. Check out the review on youtube from gearmandude.

Cheers Scotty, I just put in an order for one of those bad boys. I'm hearing rave reviews about the dragons. Can't wait to try it with the mini.

Arrived this morning Scotty...Thanks for the recommendation. Lovely sounding pedal. I tried your setting....nice. Then I set the amp to 3 bells with a LP and set the pedal to max...what an insanely lovely tone. Backing the volume off gives a great sound also. Very sensitive. WOW !

Does the flying dragon work well as a solo boost if the amp is already pretty dirty? I just need something to give me a little extra boost for solos. I am thinking about getting one too.

Sounds terrific to me alswin. I have the mini set dirty to begin with. With the pedal on you get a lovely thick tone. Hard to turn off sometimes! It's a very pretty looking pedal also. The purple LED against the white background is a great match.

I am actually considering the Draconis dual boost by lizard leg. I like the way you can emphasize the chorus and still have a seperate lead boost dialed in on the second channel for solos. It also has a switchable effects loop, while I doubt I will use that much it has some cool features.
It is susposed to be a double version of the dragon. Costs about $80 bucks more but I think I'm going with it when I am ready.
I really like the mini as is but I do need something to boost just a bit for leads to make things perfect.

Come on alswin...I know you love talking about your mini as do I what pedals are you liking with the little beast? I have to confess I'm not really digging pedals with the mini at all. The unadulterated sound can't be beat so far for me anyways! Just different geetars for different flavours...gonna have to post a vid soon on youtube with my goldtop........

Fingers, I keep coming back to the mini by itself. Every time I think I need a pedal I end up using it a couple times and then going back to just the amp. I have learned so much about how to use this little amp. Is a lot more to it than I thought when I first got it. The red fang is broken in nicely now and she really sounds sweet. I tried some videos but my mic is so crappy I was not pleased and took them down. I have been improving my skills and find the amp has it the rest is up to me.

Yeah mate that is the beauty of the amp it is so raw and pure. No twiddling for ages on knobs etc just plug in and play. My goldtop sounds fab thru her. Continually blown away by the sounds I can coax out of her. I'd love a little bit of wetness to the sound but my Hermida reverb just doesn't really gel at all. I plugged in the amp yesterday and a few hours passed before I noticed ha ha

I use a Lovepedal Super 6 as a (relatively) clean boost, and Durham Zia Drive for distortion. The Zia does not compress, so it's a great match for the Mini, I think. BTW I put a Mullard NOS Ecc82 in it, to tame the highs. It gave it a lot more headroom. Now it is surprisingly useful, not just flat out fun!

Well, just to throw something else into the mix I'm seriously thinking of getting one of these new Line 6 HD 500's. M13-class effects, patch and effect floorboard convenience on the fly. No degree in midi programming needed for full floor versatility.
This sort of path may upset a few cork sniffers out there but to paraphrase one of my all time favourite guitarists, ' one needs to take advantage of the upper limits of technology'. We do what we do.
Of course the mini hasn't much headroom so anything you throw in front of it is going to be 'coloured' by the combined pre and power stage. Not sure how this would affect - for example, a delay , eq or chorus effect.
i'm doing my research but it seems the 500 is the only one that can disable the cab and amp emulations entirely although (if Ive understood correctly) they all offer pre-amp and 'full' effect chains.
Not sure if this would be a marriage made in heaven or hell as without a effects loop option the mini is just geared for balls-out power-stage drive married to a pre-amp tonal range - bit like an old school Marshall I guess.
The only other pedal I'm thinking about is an Boss OD-3 for a lead boost.
In my old Marshall MG mini stack ss rig ( which sounds just awful and fizzy. It's going to be replaced with a 1 watt Blackstar HT-1 head and 1x12 ASAP) I had a Guv'nor 2 and a Mark II Bixonic expandora neither of which sounded anything other than bright and kinda gnarly (although the Bixonic has this diode/led light thang that glows in line with how much attack you use which would be great with such an attack-sensitive amp like the mini)
On the mini set at about 3 oclock for a (relatively) clean both these dirt boxes sound just completely awful. Perahps they might sound better if I let the mini off the leash via the brakelite setting but just not possible at home (see thread on bedroom levels)
i'm thinking, let the mini's power stage provide the dirt and stick to effects for modulations etc. It's got such a creamy overdrive out of the tubes it's almost a sin to handcuff it with something else in the signal chain. I like a little reverb, delay, compression and the odd chorus though for the sort of stuff I play so here's hoping.
I'm always laughing when I see these guys in small clubs with a full Marshall stack 100 watt rig for a backline with their master volumes set on 0.1.
Yeah, the grunt of a 4x12 is great but wouldn't it make more sense to mic up a 5 watt mini ( or something like a Remedy )at full crank into a 4x12 for pure tube tone and monitor wedge it back at yourself from the mixer if you can't hear yourself over the drummer?
Good luck

If you plug the mini into a 4x12 you won't have any problem hearing yourself.

I have been using my tortuga yeti and martini a lot on the mini lately to get the tones I need for the band I got asked to play with. Setting the amp at 9 o'clock it handles them well. Really glad I did not sell the yeti when I was thinking about it.

Is the Flying Dragon the same type of pedal as a T-Rex Luxury Drive?
Has anyone tried T-Rex with their Mini Z?

Has anyone tried the Xotic EP Boost with a Mini? I don't have my Mini yet but 'm thinking it will push/color it nicely.
Update. Got it love it. A bit better with single coils, but still great with my lp too.
