How is the bass response on the monza (too much too little just right?) since there is no bass control only a tone control. I have a 1x12 cab w/ a celestion gold I currently use with my maz. So you lucky guys with monzas whats your opinion.

Its full, plenty and not farty at all. Everything is really clear on this. No hiding behind its saturation. I'm running mine through a 112 with a Veteran 30 in it. Its what I had on hand. I find a nice balance really and don't feel there is anything missing that I don't know how to get. If anything maybe its a bit shy on mids but thats what I like about my Marshall and it fills that mid craving. Monza's voiced differently. Recently I clean boosted it with a Boosta Grande and it was awesome. About 11am is as far as I wanted to go on the pedal. I'm playing smok'n blues and rock stuff.
I want to get either a Gold or a Wizard for it now. Power chords on the lower strings sound thick, full and deep. Using a Strat with HSS. No lack of lowend for blues and rock. I think it falls into just right and plenty of that hehe.

Nice, thanks for the detailed response. I'm looking to either pick up a monza or a z-28 can't decide to different beasts i know. Now that i Know the bass is solid I am just debating weather the monza will clean up well enough with lowering the guitar volume when i need it. On the flip side I'm wondering if the z-28 will distort enough for me lol, which i think it will. Decisions decisions wish i could have them all!

I've got the 1x10 with the Red Fang, and I like the low end a lot. +1 on hitoverdrive's description. I mostly have used a Strat through it so far. It does cleanish, rather than clean. Key for me to keep it in that zone is to keep the guitar volume down and to use a light pick attack or fingers. It seems quite sensitive/responsive to that, at least when I'm at the controls YMMV.

I think the a head running through the cab you have would work just fine. The Monza sounds really nice through the G12H-30 speaker that comes in the 1x12 combo, especially since that speaker likes low end. I personally like the sound of 1x12 better than the 1x10, but with the latter you get portability and a brake lite for the same price. Hard decision... I'm with doctorice on the cleans. It does do "cleanish", but please be careful not to depend on this amp for good gig level clean. It'll do it, but the cleans won't be "magical" like it's dirties. This amp likes to run wild, and it does it very well. As always, YMMV.

Old thread, I know But having recently gotten a Monza head, I thought I'd chime in (pun intended). The Monza definitely has a thick bottom. I was using my Maz 18 combo (with the G12H-30 Anniversary) as a speaker, but just purchased a Z 1-12 with the G12 30H from Humbucker, with the same speaker type. To me it sounds much better with dedicated cabinet than through the combo speaker. I'm not much into the clean stuff, which is why I went with something that I knew I could rock out with. However, I know I can clean it up by bringing the drive and volume down, turning the GV down, playing with a softer touch or fingers. It definitely gets more aggressive when I dig in to the strings.
I'm in two different bands and I'm able to use the Monza for both. One is a funky/americana/pop/original band and one is a danceable songs band. It works well for each scenario. Plus I don't have to use drive pedals to get my dirt any more. I like the pure path, and this lets me get there!
Here is a link to a song played through the Monza with the Maz combo as a speaker. Definitely not clean but, to me, it's a balance between chimey and all gritfified grit! Haha (ps I know I posted this elsewhere, but am doing it here for future reference for anyone reading the thread)
