Hey guys,
I have been enjoying my EZG for about 6 months now and can't get enough. I haven't gassed for another amp since and don't know if I will any time in the near future. I am a big pedal guy and use the EZG as a clean platform for my pedalboard. I am amazed at how well the amp handles the full assault of sonic mayhem I unleash on it with pedals.
I was a little surprised this last week by something....
I know this to be an amp with lots of headroom that needs help with pedals to get it into overdrive territory. With this in mind, I picked up a Catalinbread Super Chili Picoso boost/buffer pedal and put it at the end of my chain for a solo/volume boost. My thinking was that with all this headroom on tap, I should be able to get a nice volume jump, even at gigging levels with this pedal - something that I wasn't able to do with my Z28. At gigging levels, clean boost pedals didn't add any volume, they just drove the front end harder, resulting in a dirtier tone.
I run the pre volume around 2:00 and the post around 9:00 into a 2x12 cab loaded with a G12H30 and Greenback. It is loud, but pretty conservative settings on the amp. I clicked the SCP on, set it to unity gain, then dialed it in for a slight to moderate boost. I was shocked at how much the SCP made the amp break up as opposed to just giving me a pure volume boost while retaining my original tone. Now, while it didn't go what I expected it to do, it still sounds un-freaking-believable! What a sound! I plan on keeping the pedal and trying to figure out how to best incorporate it into my rig. I actually get a cleaner volume boost out of my Foxrox ZIM with boost/buffer card (based on a microamp circuit).
With this said, what are some of the pedals you guys have had a great deal of success using with the EZG?
