All of the talk about the Monza combo with the 10" Red Fang has me wondering what a pair of 12" Red Fangs might sound like with the Mazerati GT. Has anyone tried this?

I haven't tried the Red Fangs, but AlNiCo speakers were my least favorite type of speakers w/ the GT. I tried it w/ Weber AlNiCo Silver 10"s. I also tried it w/ Weber AlNiCo Blue Pups (and a combination of the two in a 4X10 cab). To me, the AlNiCo speakers couldn't keep up the bottom w/ the GT. They "flubbed" out when driven hard by the amp. Benttop (Steve) had a thread somewhere on the GT pages where said he wasn't all that fond of running the GT w/ Celestion's AlNiCo Gold speakers. I think ceramic magnet speakers hold up a little better to the GT. Having said all that, there was a You Tube video a year or so ago that had a guy using a GT to drive a pair of Celestion Blues for some great sounding ZZ Top (Just Got Paid Today...). I tried to find it to give a link to the video, but it seems it's been taken down. Anyway, I'm not so sure I'd want to risk frying expensive 15 watt Blues w/ the GT... I believe Hogrider used some Tone Tubbies w/ his GT. I don't remember what he said about the pairing. Perhaps the Red Fangs would be the ticket?

Currently, I am running my GT into a Port City OS 1x12 loaded with a G12-65 and it sounds fantastic. Generally I have been playing at lower levels using an Aracom attenuator. I know it gets rave reviews with the GT, but I am not as happy using the Z-Best loaded with the stock speaker combination. I am thinking of loading it with a pair of G12-65s (8 ohmers in series), but I am open to other possibilities.

Have you thought about a G12-65 + V-30?
The "65" is an awesome speaker (I gotta me a cpl), but the V-30 gets a bad rap. Broken in, they are one my all-time faves. They're the sound of 80's-current rock & blues.
I'm PRETTY sure that's what was in Pete's VK extension cabs during the 1/2-time show.
I own one of the 1st-year CSVK 2x12's, and that was the only spkr option then(2002 IIRC). I still use that cab.....a LOT.
FWIW/etc........

I decided to try a pair of G12-65s in my Z-Best cab. Since they were 8 ohmers, I wired them in series. Awesome!

I have not tried a red fang but my fav weber alnico blue dog 50w is not my favorite with the GT. I prefer ceramics with the GT. They have a faster response with more top end sizzle/crang/bite... I've been running two ceramic blue dogs at 8 ohms lately and am happy with the sound. I've got a weber greenback type coming and will pair it up with my BD alnico and see how the GT likes that spk combo.
