Hey Fellers,
Just ordered a Brakelite today from Richmond Music here in town. Can't wait for it to show up!
I have an original Stingray that I just picked up that has hardly ever been used (was owned by a collector).
In general, I love the amp. But, I just need a touch more hair on the notes. I know the amp will do what I want, but by the time I get there on the dial, I'm too loud.
Based on the reviews I've read here on the Brakelite, especially from fellow Ray owners, I decided to take the plunge! Very much looking forward to it!!
Thanks to everyone who posts their experiences and observations here, they are very helpful!

+1 on what Steve and Eddie said.
Many of us swear by the BL, but here's one thing to keep in mind. At setting 4, the most attenuated, it may sound like some of the tone has been "sucked out." Several of us have opined that this is just a natural phenomenon: our ears tend to perceive less of the low and high frequencies when volumes are low. (We're not making this up; it's a documented effect.) As a result, if you end up on 4 you may need to tweak a bit to restore "your tone."

But I was playing my Remedy through the BL yesterday on 4 clicks and having a GREAT time - sounded wonderful and the volume wasn't killing the wife upstairs. I'd rather play louder, but having that 4th position is worth its weight in gold.

Hey Fellers,
Thanks for the great replies! I only ever run my Stingray 1/4 of the way up on the volume (9 o'clock), so I'm thinking that I'll only need to run the Brakelite down a click or two to shave just a little of the volume off.
I'm a country-rock player, so for most of my stuff I just need a little extra hair on the signal which the Stingray does nicely. However, with EL84s (which are my favorite tube) you need to put a little voltage into'em before they start to compress real nice.
It's weird, because every amp I've ever owned that had EL84s in it didn't start to sound great until you got the dial up at least 1/4. My Blues Junior was the same way, although it didn't sound NEARLY as good as my Z!!!
Brakelite should be in this week so I'll report back but I am expecting it will sound outstanding.

Hey Fellers,
Picked up my Brakelite today! I'm gonna install it and try it out at band practice tonight!
I'll report back on how it works, but I am excited and nervous at the same time. This will also be the maiden voyage of my Stingray with a band so I am curious to hear how that works as well.

WOW! I mean, WOW! I love this thing! I bumped my Stingray up to about 10 o'clock on the volume, and bumped the Brakelite down 2 clicks and it was awesome!
The cool thing is that any frequencies that are lost as a result of the attentuation can be restored by simply playing with the Cut and Tone knobs. What a great piece of gear!
More to the amp, but the note separation that I am hearing now is incredible.
Dr. Z is a damn genious!!

;D ;D ;D Yep, if you have a 'ray, you need an attenuator, and the Brake Lite is one of the best.

I am able to run the volume up and get the tubes compressing without killing my bandmates! For a little extra grit, I'm gonna add an AC booster or something cause the Tube Screamer ain't cutting it. Too mushy.
