I purchased a JAZ 20/40 back in Oct. I was really on the fence between the JAZ and the EZG.
I should say that I'm a "Twin" fan and have been playing through a Reissue since 95/96 or so. It's hard to get away from something after playing that tone for so long.
Anyway, when the Doc came out with the JAZ and EZG I decided to get a new amp. I spoke at length with quite a few folks to include Frankie and Harold. Most said the EZG was right up my alley. My thought process at the time was, I already have a good sounding Twin so I'll get the JAZ to add a little something different to my tone availability. I wanted something more class A sounding, but did not want the VOX tone. Let me just say, the JAZ is perfect for this. BUT!! After playing through it 2-3 gigs it just didn't have the bell like tone I was hoping for. Not knocking the JAZ because it sounds great, it's just not the 6L6 tone - duh.
So I ended up ordering an EZG. It came in this week and played through it this weekend. My clean tone was great. Really full, well rounded tone. It sounded almost like my Twin, but more ballsy and not harsh sounding. It takes pedals with ease. My overdrive tone was nice and thick with plenty of clarity, which is a must for me. My clean tone is bright, not harsh but alive sounding. This is an issue with the Twin because overdrives start sounding harsh. The EZG doesn't make overdrives sound harsh, but lets the clean tone sound alive. Not quite sure how the Doc did this, but I'm not complaining.
I ended up having to part with the JAZ because I just can't afford to keep it and get the EZG. Again, I'm not knocking the JAZ. It's really a great sounding amp.
Most everyone said go with the EZG, but I didn't listen. I wasn't able to listen to them before ordering them. So after going around my elbow to get to my butt, I'm really happy with the EZG.
It really is a great amp!! Thanks Doc!!
