A couple of months ago, someone I know bought a 2004 Mazerati for a pretty good price. Since its a 2004 I assume that its a second generation Mazerati.
It was an amp that I had considered buying but he beat me to it. At the time I told him that if he ever wanted to sell it to let me know. I had no idea he' only want it for a couple of months. Since then I have bought an HD28V Martin and I ordered a Crook Custom guitar, for which I had to send a 50% deposit. So my purchasing power for equipment is currently very weak.
So I have some choices to make. I have a 3X10 Victorilux that I could sell and at one time I may have, But I've really fallen in love with this amp and I like what it does for me. As well it provides a variety in tones I can't get from my Stangray. The Mazerati is a combo with Celestion Blues, which are the exact same speakers as I have in my open back cabinet for my Ray. So I'm thinking that I'd have 2 amps with very similar tones. That is one question I have for the Z community. How similar in tones would a second gen Mazerati with Celestion blues be to a Ray with Blues?
Another option is to sell my Ray and Cab to buy the Mazerati. I find myself using the Victorilux so much now because of the ease of grab and go. The Victorilux is about the same weight as my open back cab with the blues. So in many instances where I might have preferred to use the Ray I use the Victorilux. I never use the Ray at home anymore as the Victorilux isn't as loud and the 6L6 tubes last a heck of a lot longer than the EL84's. So in the past 6 months the Ray actually gets very little play time.
With a Mazerati combo I might be inclined to use it more, especially for gigging.
So what I would mainly like to know is a good comparison between the Ray and 2004 Mazerati. Its making me nervous even thinking about getting rid of the Ray, but I've wanted the Mazerati for a long time and unfortunately I've put my self in a position where I can't keep both my amps and buy this amp. Which is what I'd ideally like to do.
To tell the truth if the 2004 Mazerati was exactly like the Carmen Ghia with double the power I'd feel not too bad about giving up the Ray for it. I owned the Ghia for a short time and thought that tone wise it was about the perfect amp for me and I loved it. The problem was I need more clean head room than it gave. Even full out the Ghia wasn't loud enough for the bands I play in.
So any advice on my dilemna is welcome.
