Hey, I was over on The Gear Page following a thread about the Brake Lite when I saw a post from someone who had purchased one recently that came with the following notice: "The new units have a different knob versus the red chicken head number in the photo's on our website. Dr Z figured out that the chicken head knobs were causing a torque issue that was causing the attenuator potentiometer to fail prematurely. The new knobs, which are round, black and knurled, seem to have completely resolved this issue."
Not sure how the chicken head knob would be able to mess up the switch it is attached to, unless the note means that they were overtorqued at the Z factory. Can anyone shed some light on this? I installed a Brake Lite in my Victoria Double Deluxe and I think it works great, but I am concerned that this warning may have some merit and my Brake Lite won't last for the long haul.

Just don't turn hard when you get to the end of the range...

Turning a chicken head knob can be a tough skill for some people to acquire. ;D

You could get a different knob for it for a buck or two if you are concerned, but I suspect the damage to the pot is coming not so much from the chicken head knob as it is from the bone head guitarists that think there is another level past 5 or OFF. And I CAN say that because I am a longtime bone head.
:-)
Peace, Eddie

I guess I should be more careful.

I can see where this might be an issue...youre reaching into the back of your combo amp to make an adjustment in the middle of your set, you think you had it one click down but its really already at zero...it could happen

Seems to me the chickenhead knob would be better for memorizing the positions, especially when you can't see the brake-lite.
