So now that I got the ES Rx, I want to stock up on a few matched quads of EL84 tubes. I have plenty of the other types, including EF86 tubes because of my Rt 66 which also uses them.
I just noticed that the reissue Genalex brand is also making EL84 tubes. I have their KT66 that I use in my Rt 66...and they are very nice! So I'm wondering if anyone has tried the Genalex EL84 tubes and are they as good as the KT66 product?
Oh...does the ES Rx take any other rectifier besides the GZ34/5AR4...like the 5U4GB or 5Y3...?
Also...what's the story with the bias on these amps? I read somewhere in someone's post that these are "fixed bias"...but my understanding is that all of Dr. Z's EL84 amps are cathoded biased and are self-biasing. I'm assuming the person who said it's "fixed bias" was wrong...?

Hmmm...I sure thought all EL84 Z's were self biasing too...

www.drzamps.com/biasnotes.htmlall El-84 Dr. Z amps are self-biasing according to the link i posted above and it is directly from the site. you might want to look in the tube section of the forum to see if anyone has posted this same thing, or post there yourself just so to get maximum attention

So I guess that's one against and one for the Genalex EL84 tubes...

You're right, I was wrong. I must have been thinking of the SRZ-65 or KT-45 or one of those because all of the EL84 amps are cathode biased. Thanks for pointing that out - brain fart!
