Well I don't have an original RX, but I'll be hanged if I know what "transparent clean grit" might be. I'm betting that the guys who do have an original RX need a little help on the description...

If you love the sound of the Maz Jr, maybe that is the solution to your tone search. I have one, and I can verify it is an amazing amplifier. But I also have both the RXES and RX Jr and I have to tell you, they are amazing too. But they are not the same as the Maz Jr. Different strokes for different folks. I will say there are plenty of folks who would die for an original RX, so you have an asset there. I'm pretty sure there are guys who have Maz Jr's who would rather have the original Prescription, so it is not outside the realm of possibility that you could get there. On the other hand, when it comes to tone, everything matters. Everything. Have you tried different preamp tubes? Different power tubes? What about your cabling? What about your speakers? Everything, remember...
