I recently acquired an RXES 2/12 combo and my first impression was just like you, I thought it was too bright and that I would have to turn the treble off to use it...then I fired up my Mazerati with my normal gig settings and wow, it was even brighter! So if you're a working musician, don't trust what you hear in the bedroom...you gotta have that clarity to cut through in a band. Get that RXES out on a gig and I turn my treble up around 10oclock now and this is with a very bright tele.

tone control on your guitar. It's been a while since I've been on a Strat, but I don't think that the bridge pickup has a tone control does it? Only the neck and middle? To the OP, try dialing down a little of your mids and boosting your bass just a tad. Hope this helps. Tom

i definitely agree with the extra treble is needed to cut through the mix, but i too play a MIM strat (alder body with a maple neck) (through a rx jr, but it's almost the same amp just less volume) and i switched out the pups for a Lollar Special S in the bridge (it's kind of like a P-90 meets tele meets strat tone kind of thing going on) and then Blackface pups in the middle and Neck. The special S is awesome though, you should definitely look into it if you want to round out the tone of the bridge pup.

I was going to suggest a new bridge PUP for the Strat as well. The Mexi PUP's are pretty good, but can get a little brittle with an amp with the kind of top end energy the RX ES has. Fralin ,Lollar, Grosh all make some nice warmer sounding bridge PUP's that will give you plenty of top end but fatter and more musical.
