I really used to get excited about vintage Fender amps and Blackface tone and although there will always be a place in my heart for it, the EZG-50 just KILLS! :-)
Everyday I get more excited about owning this amp. You simply cannot beat the sound and flexibility of the reverb. I was never good at taming a fender reverb with loud volumes. I can go subtle to lenny and surf city and back. Everyone mentions the cleans(which are gorgeous) but I wanna give some props to the overdrive sound it puts out. BAM!! Every fender amp I have cranked up has had some sort of brittle effect which I have tried to fill in with pedals. I have rarely used a pedal on this amp since I bought it.
Another thing is....I started getting a little into the whole NOS thing and while I definitely think you should think about NOS rectifiers, I'm very happy with the sound of the amp as is. It sounds better than a vintage Fender I owned that was DECKED OUT with NOS.
And....I used to cut the mids for the scooped blues tone. I LOVE the gooey mids this amp puts out. I can't rave enough about this amp!

I agree! Played mine with my PRS Custom 22 last night straight in. Simply gorgeous tone...had to goof around with some jazz voicings with the reverb up. Yummy tone. I was shooting for the Larry Carlton sound and got really close. Now if I only had my ex 335 back .

True story- mine came with Winged C 6L6's. I put my never-before-used set of NOS RCA blackplate 6L6's in it and biased it up.
Played for about 10 minutes and put the Winged C's back in. They sounded better in the EZG. Doc really knows how to get great tone out of "today's" tubes.

EXACTLY.....I love the fact that I can buy a Z and not have to start yanking tubes to get a good sound.
