Hey everyone, This is the first post I have ever started on the forum. I figured it would probably be a pretty exciting one. Last week I drove out to San Francisco to check out some music shops. I heard there was a shop out there that sold Dr. Z stuff. My buddy and I walked in about twelve and there is was . . . A beautiful blonde Delta 88 and matching Z Best cab. I couldn't believe it! I asked if it was used and the owner said, "No, it's been in the shop for a couple years." I bought it right then and there. I can't believe this amp. I have been playing my KT for about six months now, but this thing is just an absolute beast. I unfortunately have to sell my KT to fund the purchase of this Delta, but it is totally worth it right now. I definitley plan on having the KT back in the future. I'll have some pictures up soon! Thank you Doc for making such amazing amps. They really are in a whole different class. . . Oh, and the serial number is P9027.

I am also picking up a Delta 88 and even though it is not new (#6) its previous owners have done a great job of taking care of it! Thanks Myles, Rich, and John! ;D ;D ;D

That is a great find! From what I've been told less than 35 were ever made. Welcome to the 88 Club!
Mike, I didn't know you were getting Myles' old amp!!!! That's too cool!! I love that all black color scheme. I knew Rich had bought it but I didn't know he sold it. If you ever want to sell it, let me know...I'd happily buy another one!! Seriously, keep me in mind.
FWIW, I've got #9.... I love it. It's great at all volumes.

Hello Phil!
I had originally contacted Myles when it went up for sale but the no shipping thing from CA was a show stopper. It's made two stops since then and it popped up again. It must have been fate.
Let me know what your favorite setting are on it if you get a chance.

Mike, Mine's modified a little. When I got it it had the stock GT KT88SV #5's in it, and was biased at about 32mA. I put in a new set of GT KT88SV #6's and upped the bias to 50mA per Myles' suggestion. Contrary to some assumptions by those who haven't played the 88, in stock form it's not ever going to be a clean monster because of the unusual phase inverter setup. However, 50mA and #6's will give you more headroom even though the 88 still wants to ROCK. Settings depend on the guitar and desired volume level/crunch. The Delta is very much like my old 1998 Route 66; it's attack is actually mellow and some what "slow"...it's not a fast, hard hitting amp like my KT45. It's got that "iron fist in a velvet glove" attack. So, even on a Strat you can max the treble and it's nice and warm. The bass control I usually set lower than normal because of the huge fat low end. On the KT or Z28 I might run the bass at 9:00 but the 88 I don't need to run above noon unless I want that ultra fat low end. The volume sounds great right from the get-go; none of that Mazerati GT "full on at 8:30" thing...the 88's volume control is very linear. In fact, it's the most linear of any Z amp IMO. It's got infinite sustain at any setting. Note that at my bias setting with #6's I'm putting out 110W+...cranking that into a stock Z-Best might not be the best idea

Thanks for the quick response Phil!
I think Myles amp had the same mods done to it - not sure if they are still set that way though. I'll have to wait and see.
I was planning on running it through my 4X12 EVH III cab so I don't think there will be any issues with speakers ;D
I should have it in about a week - I'll let you know how it is then.

hey Phil,
I just got an update on the #6 amp - according to John he did not change anything on the amp so it should still be set-up as Myles had it! Can't wait to hear it live and in person!

From what I remember from my conversations with Myles, He had biased the amp closer to 50mA, and the amp was putting out about 120 watts with those settings.

I'm running the Delta through the Z Best with a 100 watt Ceramic Silver Bell and Blue Dog. Sounds amazing! So much warmth with my Les Paul. I did something most of you guys would probably frown upon. . . I made my Z Best into an openback cabinet. I still have the original piece to go on the back, but I had my friend make me a new open back panel. I know it defeats the purpose of the port, but it really does sound amazing. And if you're wondering why I didn't just buy the 212 open back cab, well, the Delta and the Z Best was kind of a package deal. ;D I'll hopefully post some pics tonight, but if not then when I get back from vacation. . . Definitely starting to fall in love with this thing. . . Just an absolute beast!
