Wondering if anyone is using the Airbrake with the Evan... can you bring it into break-up territory?

I use a Mini-Mass and it works great for getting some grit.
I'm sure an Airbrake would be even better.

I use an airbrake with my Evan sometimes. I tend to use more overdrive pedals with mine. To push it into breakup territory it is still quite loud even with the airbrake. Unless you really choke it down to max bedroom attenuation, but you start to lose a lot of tone then.

I'm just looking for a nice natural tube overdrive in the range of a BF Super with volume at 5-6. Would the Air Brake or Brake Lite do this without sacrificing tone. If I'm going to loose tone, I wouldn't be interested in this solution. Edited: I don't have any use for the bedroom setting. I mostly practice unplugged. So I'm wondering if the Brake Lite would get the same results? Altho, it would be a hassle being that I have the 4-10 cab and having to switch it on and off very often. The guys at Humbucker assured me I could get the overdrive with either with no tone loss.

I don't think the Brake Lite will work with the EZG... it's only for up to 45 watts unless I'm mistaken. I played mine at a jam last night, and really turned it up loud... I did get a beautiful slight break-up with the pre at 2:00 and the post at 11. Sounded so good... big smiles! I'm thinking about getting the airbrake now. That sound stays with you... damn I love this amp!

I think you will be able to get into that kind of overdrive range with the airbrake. I agree with westcoast, I don't think a brakelite will work with the evan for the wattage. You will get great tone with the Evan and an airbrake in the 4th click range.
And to answer the overdrive question. I'm not usually going for a lot of overdrive, just a smooth lead boost. Mostly for blues leads.

I use an ultimate attenuator with mine. You can get some real nasty dirt with an attenuator.

I use the brake-lite with mine....It's tone heaven. I use overdrive for heavy leads, and slight break-up from the amp....Yes !

The brake-lite shouldn't really work with the EZG, as its power threshold is supposed to only be 45 watts. Do you think that it may be doing some damage?

Just because an amp is rated at 50 watts doesn't mean that it continuously or even ever puts out 50 watts. That is just a rating which could be based on the theoretical yield from the circuit or just bumped up for marketing purposes. Usually, the actual output is somewhat lower than the rating.

Interesting... so, I guess the brake-lite will work? Nice to know, as it is a lot less expensive. Thanks for the info...
