This thing has my name all over it, but for those of you who've played it, does it sound like a Maz with reverb and tremolo, or something else? I know there are vids - they sound great, but I want to hear how you felt it sounded when you plugged straight in.

I second that. Is it a Maz pre with a Remedy power sections?

Well, I had a little time on it although I have to qualify my comments by saying I didn't crank it up. First, it doesn't sound like the Maz, although it has a similar initial attack. I'd say it has a touch more headroom, none of the compression of el84s (which I love BTW) but it also has incredible warmth. The tremolo circuit just kills - dimensional, awesome range of speed and depth. Despite it's presence, I didn't detect any loss of touch sensitivity like some other tremolo equipped amps. When BW was demoing some amps and the Z-verb for us (through a Maz) I remember thinking the JAZ through 2x10s sounded a little bigger overall than the Maz in a 1x12, probably that headroom thing. Finally, in comparison to the Remedy, which I played on jam night, the Remedy was just plain bigger, which shouldn't really surprise anyone. Overall, it sounds great and it's just stupid versatile. Anyone out there get a chance to turn it up?

It is a MAZ front end with a Remedy back end. Believe it or not, I didn't play one amp all Z-Fest weekend Taking 1000 pictures and four hours of video will do that. I will say- as a guy who has logged literally thousands of hours on a MAZ 18 and MAZ 38 and hundreds on the Remedy that the JAZ did not sound exactly like either one. I think the biggest difference is the lack of a "cut" control. The Doc internally set it at a place where there's not as much chime as a MAZ can make; the JAZ is more Fendery. I did not get to sample the all important "feel" by playing it myself, but I heard all types of players testing it all weekend. It is very versatile like the others have said. English John gave it and extremely authentic "SRV" type blues sound with a booster pedal. BW's clean sound would have killed for jazz, 6strang had a great country sound through it. My only "concern" is that 99% of the time I don't care for built in reverb on any amp. I haven't played one yet, but my first thought was "A JAZ 20/40 NR might be one of my dream amps". Then again built in reverb isn't stopping me from loving my EZG. ;D I still love the MAZ's but the JAZ's extra perceived headroom and percusiveness is awesome. Not long to wait now.....

I thought so too, Curt. There was one point where I had it opened up enough for some clean sustaining, 'blooming' notes when you'd bear down w/ the pick (or your fingertips) kinda like a good ol' F-well, you know. The trem was better than the 'original' on my '63 vibroverb, much better 'intensity' if you will, and I loved the way it slowed WAY down. the reverb really blew my dress up too, I just need a smidge to get me goin', just to where a dry room isn't so intimidating. Doc does it again!

I hadn't played my Evan in a while (it's just a little too loud for Amy ) I just spent an hour with my EZG/Z-Best.... oh boy. I forgot how good that thing sounded. Any fears of Z's built in reverb have been squashed. Back to the playing......

how different is the overall tone to the Remedy? Do they complliment each other? You would think they would as both are 6v6 amps. Judging by the video they sound quite different tonally, one squarely in the M camp and they other leaning strongly in the F/Maz18 camp.
Perhaps I should have started a new thread. Anyway....
Jeff Buckley would have loved the Jaz and EZG amps.

Just listening to the Z-Fest clips of English John playing the Jaz20/40 and then some other clips of people playing the Remedy. I don't know if there is a clip where both are being played to compare.

John, you'd probably have a better idea than most as to the differences of the Jaz and Remedy, what's your take? The Jaz seems like a Killer strat amp although everyone keeps saying that was just you. Loved BW's demo clips with it as well.

Taswegian, do you mind pointing me to the thread? I ordered a jaz head just before zfest. Can't wait to get it!

Tas, the difference in tone is all in the Mids! I just love that chimey pre-amp stage from the Maz! The power stage reminds me of the same low end thrust that the EZG has.

Yes indeed, that is what I was hearing from the Z-fest clips but sometimes I don't trust what I hear on video. That kinda answers the question of are they compatible. 2 Jaz clean in stereo for "A" and a Remedy set crunchy for "B"
Now we are talkin'! ;D
A new Eric Johnson rig.
Zanadude, I'm just listening to Phil and Amy's vids in the Z-fest section. For the Jaz, there is a great clip of BW demoing the amp and also English John pulls a sublime tone on the jam night with the jaz. Check them out, you will be excited.

Ok so the Little Wing and Sky Is Crying is John on the Jaz? The tone is just awesome. What is Buddy playing through?

Buddy was playing the remedy, you can really hear the difference in tone between the two, the remedy has a stronger mid-range with out being "honky" or "nasal" as a lot of mid strong amps are. The JAZ is just unreal, i can't wait for my 2x10 combo to arrive!

Don't cha just hate it...
Just when I think there is only one amp I want, along comes another and then another in quick succession.
Now I'm three behind. (at least)
Which sucks 'cause there are at least 3 guitars I want too. Oh well. More money on tattslotto this week.

By the way George, when I heard John's tone with the Jaz and strat, the first thing I thought was, "Man, George is gonna love that tone"

Thanks for clarifying guys. I was worried for a second. I thought John was playing the EZG and I thought I was going to change my order, but now I am counting the days for the Jaz to arrive. Got a Tone Tubby 2x10 with AlNiCo's that arrived yesterday!

Got a Tone Tubby 2x10 with AlNiCo's that arrived yesterday! Trust me, from someone who knows You couldn't go wrong with either the JAZ or the EZG. It's just down to personal tone preference. They're both world-class amps.

I love the EZG was about to buy one when the Jaz was announced. I like the prospect of similar tone at lower volume and 5lbs less weight! And since when did a 63lb combo become a grab and go amp. That's heavy!
