I'm not asking which is "better", just wondering how the 2 compare. Has anyone been able to A/B the Z-Verb with the Fender tank?
Is one brighter/warmer? Is one drippier/more subtle? Etc.

Interested in this myself. I happen to love reverb. I have a vintage fender tank. It sounds fantasitic in front of my Ghia and my Route 66. Curious how the Zverb compares.

I now own the Zverb. But before I owned the ZVerb I owned the 63 reissue reverb. The 63 sounded pretty good but to me the ZVerb is warmer sounding. The big reason I got the Zverb is because about a month after I got the Fender reverb the OT blew on it. I waited 6 weeks for it to get fixed. Right after getting it back, I had it on for about 5 minutes and it blew again. I took it back to the music store, got my money back and ordered the Zverb.

I've had an original Fender (64 believe) and a couple RI's. They are nothing like each other (IMHO). The Z Verb is as close to the original Fender unit with less boing, a bit more refined. The RI lacked warmth and depth, one could mod one but for as much money you can get a Z Verb for the same price as a RI.

I went with the Fender RI because it was more accessible to just walk in and try & buy one and it was cheaper than other reverb tanks that I could have ordered. That was a big mistake for me and when the ZVerb came out at the time I was having all the trouble with the Fender unit it was a no brainer what to do.

My Fender unit is an original '65 and sounds great with the Zamps but it does have some metalinc sounding boing as does the huge Hammond tank in my 68 Gretsch.

So, does the Z-Verb HAVE "boing" or "drip"? Enuff to surf?

The Z has a warmer, fuller, richer sound than the RI and is pretty close to the original. Z tweaked the unit to provide optimal drive to the reverb tank and some other things. Great unit.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm not ready to drop coin on a tank yet, but I had always wanted a 63. Now I know I'll be getting the Z-Verb. The "fuller richer warmer" and "can still surf" were my 2 concerns.
Doc needs to get a video demo up on the site!
