Just got my blonde Z-Verb from Stu @ Fat Sound. I plugged into the Mazerati 1X12 last night, just awesome. I've been playing the rati for almost 5 years, with no verb. I have a TTE, which changes my tone, but sounds great most of the time. I like the TTE, but I LOVE the Z-VERB! It sounds so much more natural than the TTE. The TTE sounds like a recording of my guitar/amp. The 3 knobs are just superb, Tone affects the reverb sound only. Tone knob is just as wide ranging as the one on the Mazerati. Mix @12:00 is equal, but almost too much, but depends on the Dwell knob's setting. Dwell can really add some volume, in that the verb can be louder than the dry. The TTE can also have the effect be overdriven, which is sometimes usefull, and both do that really well.
But the Z-Verb retains so much more of my guitar/amps tone. There is no real change in tone between bypassing or turning on the reverb, except you get the greatest reverb that I have ever heard, when on.
My rati combo sounds bigger and deeper than ever. I tried it with another amp, 5 watt BlackHeart w/closed back V-30. It shrunk, the amp swallowed the verb, and the closed back cab put all the sound and verb out the front. The open combo just fills the room in comparison.
Oh, Verb likes Overdrive!
