Just my quick review on the two attenuators....
My Ultimate attenuator is possibly faulty, but at no attenuation it is NOT TRANSPARENT. The tone gets smoothed out with a boost in low mids and reduction in high end.
However from there onwards the tone doesnt change at all from 0 to Max attenuation. All the dynamics and nuances of the unattenuated tone is there.
The Airbrake is quite the opposite, starts off perfectly transparent, then goes downhill once you hit bedroom...the tone gets flattened and mushy, but in a way it is still more transparent than the Ultimate Attenuator.
In conclusion the Ultimate Attenuator has better dynamics and tone preservation as you turn down....unfortunately the tone you start with isn't what your amp really sound like....honestly I'm disappointed!
Perhaps the 30ohm load in the UA doesnt work well with my Maz 18's 8ohm impedence? I have a 16ohm switch on my UA however that just makes the tone even worse ;D

Fascinating. Most guys who buy the UA say it is the best, but I've always wondered if it really is, or if that's the sound of defending the expenditure. And of course we all listen for different things, so I'm under no delusion that I would hear the same thing you do, but still it's fascinating.

That's exactly what I thought...you're right we all really do listen/hear differently!
