I previously posted a thread entittled, "Help, I blew a fuse". I blew a fuse screwing around with the tubes in my Mazerati. I was trying to change just the rectifier first. As you may know, that tube is way in the back and it's hard to see the lineup of the pin holes. Anyway I could not get the JJ GZ34 into the socket, so I gave up and put back in the sovtek 5AR4. It seemed a little difficult to get in, but it went without too much trouble. I thought it was just the angle and that I have big clumsy hands and that the GZ34 was not the same tube as the 5AR4. Anyway, I also changed 2 of the EL84's and then turned the amp on and it blew the 3A fuse.
One poster commented in the "Help, I blew a fuse" thread that the 3A fuse was blowing for him when his rectifier tube had a problem. I went back in and realized....Ugh....I forced the sovtek 5AR4 tube into the socket 180 degress from the way it should go in.
I also since learned the JJ GZ34 and 5AR4 are interchangeable. I've put the JJ GZ34 tube in the amp in the correct direction and it went in easily. I still have not replaced the fuse which I need to get to, but was wondering if I may have broken the tube socket jamming the tube in the wrong way.
Fingers Crossed,
Erik

From what I remember, a GZ34 and 5AR4 are the same tube, just different names used on different sides of the pond! I forget which one is Euro and which is American, but doesn't matter anyway.

5AR4 is the American designation. Man, I don't see how you could get it to go in wrong but apparently it's possible. You don't have anything to lose right now so replace the fuse and flip the switch. If you did any damage the worst it would do is blow the fuse again.
