I need help. Not sure to go w/ the Alnico or ceramic version of the Weber Blue Dog (50 watts) for my Mazerati. I will appreciate informed opinions. Also in the back of my mind I am wondering about that new Celestion Gold 50 watt coming out soon. Decisions, decisions.

From what I've been able to determine, both from experimentation AND reading, the ceramic has more edge, is a little brighter, and responds very quick. If you are able to lay out some lightning quick riffs, you'll probably like the ceramic. The alnico 50w has been in my cab for over a year (a long time for me ), I love the warmth & compression when hit hard. To my ears, and others have said as well, it is quite toneful. Of course the guitar, pickups, amp, your fingers all contribute greatly to your tone, so take that as you will. I don't play rapid fire runs for the most part, so the slower reacting alnico speaker doesn't impact my playing. Keep in mind Brad Paisley uses alnico speakers, and he can rip with the best of them, so I'm not saying you CAN'T play fast...it's just not quite as quick. An analogy I like is: slam a tennis ball against a concrete wall- ALNICO. Slam a golf ball against a concrete wall- ceramic. I'm also on the list for a Celestion Gold 50w, due next month. I *think* it'll be similar, yet slightly better and more complex, than the Weber.

I have both right now. I like the combination of the two. the alnico gives it up a little sooner. more clean headroom for the ceramic. I should be able to keep the Silver bell if Curt forgets where I live:}

Dave does the ceramic provide the low efficincy drop in amp output volume similar to the Alnico? That's one of the many aspects I really like about the Blue Dog Alnico 50W. I belive the C-Golds are very efficient loud speakers. Good for a ghia but not so good for powerful amps... unless your playing with Ted Nugent.
