Hi guys brand new to this forum, very informative! I dont want to sound like an idiot, but I just have to know: I have a brand new Mazerati head and I love the clean tones but I have a pretty harsh raspy high end especially when I hit it with higher gain pedals. Does an amp have to break in? Am I on crack? Would love some tube opinions to smooth her out without sacrificing that nice clarity! Thanks!

Hey Rockett - welcome to the forum!
Not sure about the amp breaking in, but speakers usually need a break-in period before they sound their best. Check out the tube thread here in the Mazerati section for some ideas. I'm using 5751's in both spots and I really like the tone. It smooths out the highs nicely. I keep my tone knob at about 2 o'clock or so, too. Good luck and have fun!

You might also consider swapping out the V30 speaker for something else, as some feel it has a bit of a harsh upper midrange presence to it. When I replaced the V30 in my Mazerati the amp sounded much smoother to my ears.

I bought my Mazerati head used, and it was a harsh rascal when I first fired it up. It had been retubed at some point with a ratty ECC83 that I replaced with a GT12AX7M, and the 5751 with a JAN GE that I had laying around. This helped a LOT. My speaker of choice with this head is a G12H30. The Z cab I recently bought had a Vintage 30 in it as well, and it sounded pretty crappy compared to the G12H.

I haven't had a great deal of time with her just yet, but have tried it through a variety of different speakers and no change at all. I like it best through my G12H but it is still very harsh when I hit it with some dirt. My other 2 heads (Route66 & Maz38) handle the very same pedals with ease and grace. I will try a couple different tubes in preamp section and get back, I gotta say I am considering sending it back to entertain the new Stingray, I have heard it is a nice snappy amp with more high choices from woodsy to chimey. This high end on this amp seems always constant, although cool, it doesn't seem to fit well in my rig so far. By the way thanks a TON for the warm welcome to the forum and answering my silly questions!!! Thanks again!!

Yer' welcome, and good luck with whatever you decide. Tube changes are always a "first option" with me, as they're cheaper than trading amps...unless you get deep into the NOS stuff. I only use one or two pedals at most with this head, and they've worked very well, FWIW.
