Hi,
Not to ask a totally naive qustion, but is there a particular speaker configuration that is magic with the Mazerati? How particular is it to speaker selection? How do you think it would go with 2x12 with Weber P12Q clones, 20 watts each? Would there be any risk of blowing them? Or, does it really want a Brit speaker?
Thanks, I am comparing Zs and have narrowed down to the Mazerati or the KT-45, depending on what I find here and at the music store next weekend when I try them out.

Well, here's some experience I've gained so far, although I'm not sure it's really an answer to your question. The V30 that came in my 1x12 combo was a little spiky in the mid/mid-highs. It had a certain presence that I didn't care for. I swapped it out for an Eminence Red Fang, but the speaker blew. It's rated at 30 watts but I didn't really push it that hard. Not sure if it might have been a manufacturing defect. At any rate, this speaker is described as having similar characteristics to a Celestion Blue, and it sounded really good to my ears. I replaced that speaker with a Weber Alnico 12A150. I don't think it's the ideal speaker for that amp, as it seems to have more of an American voicing. I may try one of the British voiced Alnico Webers next.
Zac, who is Brad Paisley's guitar tech, a writer for Vintage Guitar magazine and is also reported to be a very good player really likes the British Alnico Webers (Silver Bell and the Blue Bell...or something like that) in a Mazerati.

The one that's worked best for me is the G12H30. I too have a Vintage 30 sitting on the shelf that just doesn't "do it" for me. With a one-knob tone amp like the Mazerati, this one seems to give me the broadest range out of any I've tried so far. It has plenty of sparkle, so I can lean a little harder on the bass side of the tone knob for a more full-bodied sound. I play reasonably clean single coils in a three piece band setup, so this helps me a lot having a speaker that can reach both ends of the spectrum and handle the power.
I'd love to try some other speakers, many of which have been mentioned here in the Z forum. Maybe one o' these days....

I'm in need of a 1x12 right now for when I dont need the zbest I'm using a rati head and soon ghia head I'm considering 1)weber blue dog 2)weber silver 3)greenback reissue Ideally if I was rich I would buy all three and check em out .Thats the problem with trying different speaks you really have to do your research but even then the speaker may or may not work for you ,then once ya start messing with speakers (if your anything like me ) it can get a little crazy there is so many speakers out right now to chose from this is where places like this forum really help (or dont more gas)others expierence with the same amp etc,I find pedals to be the sameway

I'm currently using Webers and couldn't be happier. A 1x12 with an Alnico Blue Dog, and a 2x12 Alnico Blue Dog and Silver Bell...all rated at 50w. The 2x12 is wired in series for a 16 ohm load, like a Vox AC 30. Easily the nicest speakers I've bought to date, very musical and warm, nothing harsh about them.
I'm guessing they would be a good match with a Mazerati, given the "Voxy" character of both.

Madison, Which of the two Webers do you think sound most like the G12H30watt speaker. I'm wanting to replace my Vintage 30, too shrill for me. I like the G12H and I'm looking for something to complement it.

How would it be with Jensen P12Q types? Do you think it would blow a 2x12 with 20 watt speakers?

Don't laugh, but I am using a Hartke 4x10 cab. I put two Jenson guitar 10's in the top slots and two 10's PA's in the bottom. I get really smooth breakup with great bottom.
