Hey everyone
Just for fun, we plugged my friend's pedal steel into my Mazerati at rehearsal today - it sounded great! Makes me wonder if any steel players are using Zs.

I can't imagine anything sounding bad through a Mazerati.

Not sure about the Mazerati, but since the design is comparable I'll give you an AC30 story with lap steel. Last year, while I was working with Gretchen Wilson, we cut come stuff with Gretchen that was used for some overdubs/thickening for the CMT Outlaws TV show last year. Our steel player, Gaylon Mathews (who's also a GREAT lap steel player), and I were experimenting with some different tones for lap steel. We tried some of the various vintage and boutique amps at Blackbird studios, and the most killer combo we got (and ended up using for the TV dubs) was his '46 Gibson Lap into a '64 AC30. No effects , except a slight boost from a Keeley compressor. Sounded AMAZING. Total "David Lindley" type vibe with even a little more nastiness. So since a Mazerati is sort of a modern/better AC30 "type" amp, I bet distorted lap steel would be heavenly. Pedal steel, too, if the player didn't mind a little growl....

i play pedal steel and gig regularly around austin, and i only use my mazarati. it's a fantasticly rich amp for steel, nice and warm. most guys seem to prefer either peaveys or twins, but they always seem to harsh to me. www.kvrx.org/locallive/images.php?id=609&pid=636cheers!
