Gear: Les Paul Classic with Jimmy Page-type switching system --MAZ38-R 2 x 12 blues w/Brake lite.
WOW! Installing the Brake Lite gave me the first chance to really bring the power tubes into the tonal picture, and it was pure joy! Could finally use the entire range of the amp at home (not whisper quiet, but certainly reasonable volume levels). Never dreamed of such touch sensitivity. Everything sounded so good....you can attack a note a thousand different ways and they all sound awesome and distinct. Picks, fingers, slaps, flicks...all sound fantastic!
I originally bought the MAZ38 for the extra headroom (for use as a pedal platform) and tubed it up for that role. Now I've heard the true potential hidden in this amp...every tone position usable, every pickup setting amazing (both HB and single coil sounds). Its almost like every note tells you how the next one should sound! Really helps you interact with the amp, and it responds beautifully. Thank you Dr. Z! Highly recomended!
Side note: Plan on using velcro or a backing board if you want it easily accessible in the back of the MAZ38-R 2 x 12. On the left side of the amp (looking at the back) is the cooling fan just above the backing board. On the bottom is the reverb pan. That pretty much just leaves the right side of the amp for easy access. Putting the brake lite in this position leaves the screw holes facing the front of the amp, so you'd have to take the speaker out to install/remove the Brake lite using the screws. Not a big deal for me, as I like the velcro idea to keep it swappable.
