I was reading Myles' website and it said the Delta 88 was based on Michael Burks Dumble -
From Dr. Tim again from the PRS Forum .... This is Michael's manager:
I should say that the Dumble tones that Michael uses are different than the run of the mill Dumble. The big guy tuned the amps specifically for Michael's attack. That amp can be heard on the Alligator release "I smell Smoke" The Delta 88's were specifically tuned to sound similar. Less fuzz from preamp distortion, more power amp distortion. Which is very different from the Dumble approach. Just different approaches to the same end. The Band of Gypsy's analogy is more about the fluid low end, which Michael prefers. Most times the eq's are set with low and mids full up and highs rather low. Hope that clarifies things.
I thought that was pretty interesting.

And another tumbleweed rolls through the Delta 88 section. I have avoided commenting because I could be quite off the mark. But... I thought the Delta came from the Marshall Major end of the spectrum. I think that passage from Myles' page meant that the doc took the 88s that were going to be for Mr. Burks and tweaked them more in the direction of the amps being used and subsequently replaced by the Deltas.

Thanks for the comment. I figured it would be a while before someone came across my post. Mine doesn't remind me of a Marshall though. I'd be curious to hear what the other Delta owners think as well.

Mine is more Marshall than Fender, if you're looking at it like that. But I wouldn't say it sounds like a Marshall. And I've only owned a few Dumbles. Not enough to get a good comparison. ;D

I took the comments by Michael Burks and his manager to mean that they were looking for a feel that Michael likes in his Dumbles, but in a Dr. Z amp, and bulletproof reliability. How Dr. Z achieved this circuit electrically/design wise was irrelevant. So, he took the Route 66 platform, changed the phase inverter and a few other things, added the *monster* trannies, KT88s', and the Delta 88 was born. The only thing the Delta has in common with the Dumbles is that they're both made of glass, metal, and plastic. I think Michael really liked the Jimi tones on "Machine Gun" etc. and wanted a similar sound. That's what I hear with a Strat and a Z-Best.

Rich,Luv the Delta I bought from ya.Great amp all the way through the spectrum.Did I say it kicks butt too?I can get so many different tones at so many different volumes.Did I say this amp has a touch of volume? This amp may be loud ,but the tone makes this amp the great creation it is.

How's it going Mat?That Delta will sing and has some rich tones. It does compliment the Maz but I have to run it pretty low and I let Maz Growl a little bit.
