Got my new BL today, installed per instructions in my 2008 2X10 combo NR, purchased from orig. owner last week. Anyway, fired her up. Went through the settings, most to least(#4-#0). by the time I got to least, amp seemed altogether less loud than pre- install. Investigation around back showed the EL84 to the left of center (as looking at the back) was glowing MUCH brighter and hotter than the right hand one... Pulled the tubes and installed new set. bypassed the BL, amp works fine, tubes glow normally, volume restored to pre BL fire breathing goodness... Any guesses as to WTF?? Thanks! Mark in Portland

It's supposed to be less loud and allow you to turn the amp up louder and get the tubes to do their magic. 0 is ByPass and as the numbers increase it get a little quieter in 4 steps.
Tubes do fail... I would think that pushing the amp harder with any attenuators could make a marginal tube go south. Always keep a good and full spare set handy.
