Here's the deal, I'm want to retire my 64 Showman it's just starting to get a little to maintence intenseive and i'm loosing trust in it for the gigs.
Couple of Questions.
1) How well would the EZG hang volume wise with the Showman? all else being equal, I have a Stangray and it's not close to the clean headroom i need with the band We play old and new country.
2) Tone wise the EZG is being touted as the Blackface that never was, how close can it get to the Showman Tone wise?
As much as i love my showman it's just getting old, and as much as i like my Stangray it just sits and sits and i'll probably sell it to help fund and EZG if it'll work for me.

I actually just heard a showman the other day that a friend of mine owns, so it's kinda fresh. I think the EZG is definately the best way to get a blackface tone from the Dr Z line of amps. I have been discovering many good tones in the EZG lately. It will do the blackface sound, but it can get more complex than that. depending on how you set the pre/post, the treble and mid have a rather wide sweep. If you set the pre high and the post low the amp has a thicker midrange, which works well for distortion. I set it like that when I use my Les Paul. If I'm doing blues with my strat I turn the post all the way up. From what I can tell setting the post full on is kinda like having a non master volume blackface amp. I really like that setting, especially with the righ overdrive pedal.
I don't think you will be disapointed with the EZG. I wish you luck, maybe you can find one to play through. Is there a dealer near you?

Matt Thank you for the response, Yea i was wondering about the master volume how it worked and interacted with everything, glad to hear that turning it up all the way gets it out of the circuit somewhat I do have a couple of dealers nearby but noone has one in stock Anyone else?

ok, i'll answer for any "anyone else". i have some videos on the "sounds" page of my ezg50, i did a lot of tweaking of the amp(trial and error), the latest is with a single coil bridge stratocaster. i use an airbrake, but it does nothing to the tone , listen not for the guitar playing, but as a pretty good example of the ezg50 thru an evm12L loud bright speaker. just as good as any twin reverb or super or showman i have ever heard, and better i think.

Thanks for the response cementedman, I really liked your clips with Your Tele! Sounds like it can get the tone i like,
I just worry about the clean headroom, not always for the sheer volume but i use pedals to get the bit of grit i use, sometimes heavier.
Looks like i may just have to take the plunge....anyone looking for an Stangray?
