Hi All,
Just about to take delivery of a KT45 and, in a rush for instant gratification, wondered what settings you were using to get what tones? Anybody doing Townsend? Gilmour? etc...
I'm using single coils in a Strat and a Tele.
Any recommendations would be very welcome.
Thanks!

i owned two of em, and a 6545,, dime it... er, the bass and treb that is,, if its a solid state, then it might be too loud. i used a two ten cab with mine, i didnt have a gz34 in there and it still blew the roof off.

All three at noon is great! ;D
If you have an airbrake.....or a LARGE space, all three at three o'clock!
Very simple settings, its hard to find a bad one.
Another great one for a more Vox-ish sound, and less of the hiwatt sound, is
Volume: 11:00 Treble: 10:00 Bass: 2:00

With my Strat I start with the treble and bass maxed, then usually end up backing the bass off to about 4 O'Clock as I get warmed up. The Volume along with an Airbrake I work together but that just depends on the amount of dirt and volume level I want.

PS: Just want to add that the treble and bass play a big part in the amount of dirt the amp has. For cleaner tones back them off. There is nothing like twisting knobs!

That's how I did it. And that's how I run my Route 66 about half the time too. Of course, I'm old now, so I attenuate the hell out of everything...

Is it just me, or do you guys find that with amps like the 66 and the 45, that running the Treble, Bass, and Volume all at the same setting (all at noon, all at 3 o'clock, all dimed) a really balanced, terrific tone. Doc really voiced these amps evenly.

Brad, It's not just you. It's pretty evenly voiced. Twisting the knobs all which-ways it's still hard to get a bad tone from it.

The KT45 is very versatile. I can get great Knopfler clean tones with my Strat, and with my Set Neck it has a great clarity, especially on the wound strings. When you crank it you do get a great crunch but it can get loud that way (I play it with a Z-Best).

I bought mine on the back of the recommendation from Bjorn Riis at Gilmourish.com and he's spot on, they ARE simply superb, and as near as you can get to the old Fane's of the late 60's early 70's, perfect for my Pink Floyd tribute show, and sounded great with my Hiwatt which I sold to fund my KT45. I'm sure you'll be pleased with them.

Thats great to hear, I am going to try one in a 1x12 first, to test them out. I wish I could make 1x12 combo, a sortof Dr Z version of the Hiwatt Bulldog.
Which Hiwatt did you sell to fund the KT-45?

Funny thing is, I have seen that everyone suggests Weber Thames for the Gilmour sound........on Gilmourish it says that he used WEM 4x12's with Fane Crescendos which are different from those in the Hiwatt cabs as I understand. I think they are supposed to be more Hi-Fi sounding, I could be wrong though.
Either way, I am curious how the Weber FC speakers sound, which are supposed to be a clone of those type of Fane Crescendos.
From what I have gathered the Weber Thames would be like those used in Pete Townshend's Hiwatt cabs.
Regardless, I am really excited.
Townshend and Gilmour are two of the greatest sounds of rock ever, so you can't go wrong

Couldn't agree more! and combined with the KT45 it's a force to behold! Got mine this afternoon and have only just managed to put down my guitar for a minute. This thing is so addictive! That's it, I'm off to go play some more! Bye!

Sorry, just spotted your question, I had the Custom 50 head, it was truly superb but the KT is way better, the note attack, the clarity, the tone! OMG, I never knew EL34 amps could sound like this.

By the way Darkside, if you really want a great Townshend sounding edge with the KT, try an XOTIC RC Booster, best pedal I own!

this might sound a little wierd but it worked. i have a 4ohm cab w/ 2 reconed C10Q's and i couldnt resist. coming out of the KT's 4 ohm jack with all the knobs maxed it was a great (very loud) bedroom rig. like first album ZZ Top, after that the only knob i needed was on the guitar. and it really didnt sound like it was murderin' the speakers as i rolled the guitar volume back. its like the other personality that this amp has vs. that monstrous clean townshend tone. just awesome, PP

I'm also finding the guitar knobs are getting a bigger workout than ever before. Trying all sorts of setting, and if the treble gets too much, just adjust the guitar tone. Mainly using my strat so far as I need new strings on my tele and haven't got around to it. Strat controls were wired up by Jerry Amilfitano. A big cap on the volume pot keeps all the treble in there at lower volumes, and the KT45 sounds great with the guitar volume down and the amp controls past 12 oclock. Not using the airbrake yet, and I'm really happy as it is.
