I just bought my Maz Sr. 2x12 last weekend, and although I haven't gigged with it yet, I know it's gonna sound great. A Jr. was out of the question for me because I was looking for high headroom. Up until now I've used an AC-15, which sounded great but lacked at extra little bit of headroom I needed for pristene cleans. I use this pedalboard: I run the amp near but not at the edge of breakup, and use the first Timmy as a low to mid gain OD, the Crunchbox does Marshall type high gain OD, the second Timmy is for lead boost with a little bit of hair, and the RC is a straight clean boost. All pedals are run into the face of the amp. I rarely stack more than two pedals at a time. So fellow Z owners what pedals do you run with your Maz 38?

Btw, got an email from a new Stangray owner this morning asking questions about Keeley pedals...I sent him over to your Soundclick site...a FEW examples there.

On the board Boss tuner>>Teese Picture Wah>>MJM Blues Devil>>Xotic BB Preamp>>Fulltone Supatrem>>Diamond Memorylane>>Xotic RC Booster. Will be adding a Klon Centaur and hopefully a Xotic Robotalk as well. Maybe a Diamond Fireburst for Christmas.

Man! You must look like Bojangles with all that tap dancin'! Yep... More stuff than I need, really. But then again, they're all pretty much a necessity to keep artists & producers happy... In club gigs, I try to keep "pedal dancin' " to a minimum...LOL Gonna try the new Keeleys (sd1 and ds1) to mix up the flavor a bit until I can settle on the right combination. J

Amp is amazing alone, but need some 'toys' to cover album parts.
ATA "Bus" board: NS2, TU2, Keeley Mellow Wah, Fulltone Octavia, Keeley Comp, Keeley Katana, Fulltone OCD, Keeley TS9, Barber Direct Drive, Ernie Volume, Line6 MM4, Line6 DL4, wireless, w/george l's
ATA "Flight" board: TU2, Keeley Mellow Wah, Keeley Comp, Keeley Katana, Fulltone OCD, Keeley DS1, Keeley SD1, Barber Direct Drive, Ernie Volume, Keeley TR2, ZOOM Choir, DD20, w/George L's.
Do sub in a Keeley BD2 and an AD9 from time to time.

Man! You must look like Bojangles with all that tap dancin'! As I said, I rarely have more than two on at a time. Having this many tonal options actually eliminates tap dancing. For example, if I have the Crunchbox doing a heavy rhythm, and step on the 2nd Timmy for a lead boost. That pedal gets me extra gain and extra volume at the same time. If I don't want extra gain, but do want extra volume, then I use the RC. Redundant maybe, but it makes performance easier.

I understand, I was just teasing. The more clients the more tones necessary. I only work with my own band so I don't need any pedals really but I keep a Strobostomp, King of Tone and a Keeley compressor. Tell the truth I'm not so happy with the Keeley compressor. I may go back to my Guyatone. When i was doing different kinds of bands I always had a wa wa and a tremolo too.

No problems, I joke about tap dancing all the time. I'm playing in 4 different bands, and I've taken on the role of "the guy who can get 'that' tone".

I only work with my own band so I don't need any pedals really but I keep a Strobostomp, King of Tone and a Keeley compressor. I'm constantly a victim of pedal creep. I have the simplest and one of the best amps ever built, the Ghia, and a terrific sounding Maz 38, but I DO play in a variety cover band that does anything from Johnny Cash to heavy rock. So I find my self getting a great tone with a pair of overdrives and a wah and a tuners... and then adding a compressor, maybe a little delay, maybe a clean boost... and then two months on, losing all that cr@p and starting over...

Kind of like this, although aside from the ZD and the Mini Loooper we have different stuff...
I just have such a cool tone out of the Zs that I get frustrated with TOO MUCH, because I just can no longer dial everything in. Option anxiety, but more than that, too much interaction between pedals. If they're on the floor in front of me my instinct is to add a little more, and that ALWAYS leads to trouble for me.
Incidentally, love the $15.00 Dano mini with all the booteek stuff. That's stylin' there.

These are my "landmines"... ;D BTW: Used with the MAZ 38 mostly dead clean (Low input, Master at 10 and Volume between 10 and 12 - my band plays NuCountryRock). The main speaker cab is an open back 2x12 w/ a Emi Red Fang and a G12H30. The silver box in the upper right corner is a Custom (Small Box) McFuzz and the red pedal is german-built Delay pedal - somewhere between BOSS DM-2 and the old AD-9 (but true bypass...).

I got to hear my SR through a Germino 2x12 closed back cab this weekend. I didn't recognize my own amp! Had a Xotic BB in front of it, I think that pedal was made just for the SR. What a great rock and roll sound. Humbuckers and singles sounded very good. And to think, I was gonna buy a 65amps London. Not anymore. All the Xotic pedals seem to work real well the the Maz SR 38. rob,
I use just a few pedals: Wah Overdrive Tuner (if that counts as a pedal)
Would like to add delay but, I can live without it.
Matter of fact when I play outdoor gigs I don't even need the overdrive. The amp crunches just fine without it.

I use Xotic AC and RC with an OCD for boosters; Keeley Compressor, TC Chorus/Flanger, Boss Reverb and Delay and of course the obligatory Boss Tuner. I also keep a StompStrob handy for my Buzz Feiten geetar. Am using a volume pedal mostly for convenience. Ah, I have an Airbrake too but haven't used it all that much, havent' gigged much lately either.

I eventually replaced the AC with the Timmy, but it was still a fine OD/Dirty boost.

robeadgbe, I'm on the fence with the AC in fact I have a ZenDrive on order, like a lot of others. I use the OCD a lot more often sometimes stacked with the RC. I would like to try something esoteric like the Prophesy by ? Rocktron? I have two Johnson Millennium amps I occasionally use for that special thing. A fun amp to mess around with especially in the studio.

Hey Guitarstan, Sorry about the late reply.Well Clyde Deluxe was highly recommended by the guys at Fat Sound over the Teese.I told them what I was looking for with my tone and I don't have time to spend trying out different Wahs out there and end up returning or selling them because it is not the tone I am after.I have no regrets so far on the Clyde.I love the versatilities on Clyde Deluxe. dock66

Just played a Maz 38 for the first time tonight at a store in Chicago, and I brought along a couple pedals from home so I could see how they matched with the amps I played. The BJF Honeybee and the Maz 38 was an *incredible* match. I brought my Zendrive also, but I forgot to bring a power supply for it. Oops! I was real curious how it would sound with this Z. Does anyone have some clips, or can anyone tell me if it plays well with the Maz Senior?
Thanks.

Just played my brand new Maz 38 Sr 2X12 first time last night at a band gig. As it broke in it sounded better and better as the night went on. Had all the usual pedals ready to go as configured to accommodate my last amp. Mostly use a strat with Lindy Fralin's. I ended up, to my amazement, not using half of them. The tone was so great and full that I felt that certain boxes just detracted from my lead playing and overall incredible character of the sound. By the way this amp drew out leads from me that must of laid dormant and fermenting or neglected in my memory. No kidding. I can’t really explain it. It was inspiring to say the least. Anyway back to the subject. I still occasionally used the tremolo or rotary for color and digi echo slap back for the fifties feel but weened the distortion stuff right out. It is of course a matter of taste and no offense intended to fellow pedal board surfers but this amp sounded so incredible that I felt like using my distortion boxes was the equivalent of putting a cheap plastic lens on an expensive Nikon. But that’s just me and it was my "first time".
