Has anyone tried this? I know Myles put KT77's in a SRZ with great results, but what about the KT? If so, was it with a Tube or Cap rectifier? Love my KT 45, but can never leave well enough alone.

I've been jonesing to answer that question myself. I've got a set of 'em in my SRZ and am also really curious how they would sound in the KT. I just haven't had the time to try it....

You are the guy to talk to for sure, I have not gotten a set for the SRZ yet either. What is the difference there? Any other tubes changes? Let me know if you get a chance to play with the KT77's in the 45. By any chance have you tried Weber Thames speakers yet? I can't imagine liking something better than greenie's with it in a closed back, but I am debating it.

How about trying KT66s? That was something I wanted to try before I sold my KT45, but never got around to it. That would have let you hear how the ultralinear tap in the Route 66 affected the tone.

There's other differences in the two circuits besides the UL taps...that's called "changing more than one variable".

Besides the UL tap and the tubes, what are the differences?

Besides the UL tap and the tubes, what are the differences? I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you ;D

The only reason I asked is because I compared them when I still had the KT. Everything looked identical to me, except I think one resistor value. Even the trannies had the same exact part number. I also know it's fairly common for the KT to have the SS rectifier. But mine had a tube rectifier. I just thought it would be fun to try and see what exactly the tonal difference the ultralinear tap did, with everything else as close to equal as could be. Besides the UL tap and the tubes, what are the differences? I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you ;D

Just ordered two KT77 pairs for both. No harm in trying the KT77's with the KT-45? If so, I would appreciate a warning. Thank you.

What exactly are KT77's supposed to offer tonally that EL34's do not?

What exactly are KT77's supposed to offer tonally that EL34's do not? From reading the most other KT77 forum references I think I remember: More lower mids Sweeter Highs More Chimey like 6L6's I will post my KT77 hearing results if I have any hearing left.

Did you end up trying them?
What are the do's and don'ts regarding the different kt** tubes and substituting in an el34 amp?

I think the KT77's also have a little more headroom.

I haven't tried the KT77's yet. My KT-45 has been sounding so good lately (GTEL34LS's) that I am not willing to tamper with it until it needs new tubes. If it ain't broke... you know the rest.
