Hi, Ok,so which Maz senior speaker config is the way to go? I am thinking the 2-12's..most bang for the buck? I currently have a 73 Vibrolux with two tens and a 71 Super Reverb (for sale)with 4 tens. a 71 Deluxe Reverb, and a 72 Twin Reverb. Many thanks!

Hi, I had a similar question concerning 2x10's here 4 days again - and still no answer... Does that mean the 2x10's are not that good for the MAZ Sr?? Anyway, yesterday I went to a wellknown shop here in Germany; they have all different kinds of Mojo Cabs with a variety of speakers. I'm an old Fender (Super Reverb) dude and so I wanted to try esp. the 2x10. They had one with Jensen C10Q's. Sounds nice but after trying 1x12 and some 2x12 combinations I have to say that a 212 works maybe best with the MAZ. An open back with G12H30 + V30 (maybe the best allrounder) was great but surprisingly (is that proper english??) my favourite was a closed back 212 with V30s! Even great for clean sounds - and twangy. At the moment I use a 112 (in an oversized cab) with one G12H30, also a real good solution. So the 2x10 (with the C10Q's) are in direct comparison IMO a little to weak and thin sounding for the MAZ. The Dr.Z 2x10 is maybe different as far as I heard - but no chance to get it in good 'ol Germany...

Here is a classic response to your questions: “It depends on what you are looking for...”
I also played a early 70’s Vibrolux and Deluxe Reverb for a good while before acquiring my Maz 38 Sr 1x12. The Vibrolux with 2x10 and the Deluxe with 1x12. For me and what I play I like the solid bottom of the 1x12, I like the way it hits and holds, the thickness, etc. I have the chance to play at least once a month with two other Z players. They have 2x10’s and it fits them fine and I am sure they would not want my 1x12. They are looking for a different feel and harmonics. But since you have played both 1x12 and 2x10 amps you know already know what I mean.
The optimum solution is likely bluzsteel’s if you can pull it off. I would really like to go that route but don’t play any venues that could support it. Though I have thought about stereo...
Good luck in your decision making.

I have a Maz 38 SR with 2 10's and it's really about what you're looking for. I live in NYC which means no car. I wanted the most air pushed and widest dispertion without having to carry 80lbs plus another 20 for my pedalboard and the 10lbs that constitutes my Les Paul So I opted for the 2 x 10 combo because i had a GHIA 2 x 10 and never found the tens to be weak at all. Now, if i had my way, i'd probably go 2 x 12 just to get a little more air push but i dont find the 10's lacking in bass at all. Plus, the Dr rear mounts the tens with a ring so that while the 10's may not be 12's, you're getting a little wider of a tone then if he front mounted them. Plus you get the clarity and tightness that come with 10's as well. You can't go WRONG with either..its just about what you want. I also agree that a 12 with a 12 extension is a great idea. Good luck and enjoy your Z, either way

Have you thought about getting a head? This way you could mix and match. Maybe a 1X12 cab and a 2X10 together? Maybe Z's 4X10 cab, I've heard it's great.

I played the 1x12, 2x10, 2x12, and Z-Best side-by-side from a Maz 38 Senior at Fat Sound in Cary, NC. Drove there from out of state because they have demo models in stock to test while you decide on what to order. The 2x12 would be for me if I were a brute, but I love to carry my guitar in one hand and my amp in the other. The Z-Best was a different sound to me, due to the closed back-- I'm just not used to pushing that much air. Between the 1x12 and the 2x10, flip a coin. But seriously, you can't go wrong. The 1x12 delivers a stronger low end push, while the 2x10 offers a little more glassy sparkle. They don't call them options because one is better than the other, you know? I went with the 2x10 combo because I thought the way they sparkled surprised me. I expected the 1x12 to thump, but that 2x10 sparkle? Hope you find that sound you're looking for. Seek wisdom in the council of many; don't take my word for it.

I like the 2 x 10 cab a lot. I want a more dispersed sound instead of the beam of a single 12". I'm probably going to order a 2 x 10 cab and that new for '06 head that the Doc is coming out with.
