Cool, thanks for the reply Doc - like the name BTW. So how does it fit in a combo? - what about ease of access to the controls? - any plans for a fan if it gets warm? - what's the likely price? - when can I get one? Should be available in Jan 2009. We will release a video showing installation in a Z as well as in a Fender Deluxe and maybe a Peavey combo. I will hold back any other info as my Dealers like to be the first to know so they can handle the questions and calls. Z

Hmmm...the combo version is going to fit INSIDE the chassis? I can't help but wonder how easy it will be fo' tweakin'.

The airbrake could be made smaller...
We can rebuild it, we have the technology, we have the capability to make the worlds smallest power attenuator. The airbrake could be that attenuator, better cosmetics, smaller package, absorbing more power...
However, no one wants to spend $6M for the components...
IMHO, I think part of the beauty of the airbrake is it's simplicity, much like the rest of Dr Z products, which probably has something to do with it's transparency. I think it's also a little overbuilt to protect us yahoo's who tend to be a little rough on the gear however unintentional.

"BRAKE LITE" should qualify for a federal nano technology grant. www.nano.gov

Nobody is forcing anyone to buy anything. I choose not to use a 4x12 cabinet because they are too big for me. I'm satisfied with a 1x12. Others choose a 4x12 and are ok lugging it around. It is what it is. Maybe a smaller one comes out in the future. I was suprised at how big it was when I first saw it. Now I am used to it. Nobody else even notices it or knows what the heck it is. I'm not sure why aesthetics on something that is on the backline are all that important anyway. I guess it depends on the individual.

That's what she said. Ah, but seriously... I just received a used Airbrake and was somewhat surprised at the hugeness of it, even though I tried to prepare myself by looking at pics, etc. While it does sit well on top of my Remedy, it also vibrates/rattles pretty loudly when placed there. And it detracts from the fantastic, perfect, simple look of the head and cab together (Z Best). Also, I don't like attenuating (who does...) and only do so out of absolute necessity, so I don't want to be constantly visually reminded of the fact that I am using one. Would much rather have it out sight, out of mind... Maybe a Brake-Lite would be better for me, but I can't help but think that the Airbrake must be of higher quality, performance-wise. And, there doesn't seem a practical, safe way to store/mount a Brake Lite with a head & cab setup. Having said all that, despite its size, I actually like the overall look of the Airbrake and think it looks way better than a Hot Plate, which I've also owned. Those things are huge and tacky, with their grossly loud, almost fluorescent colours. I much prefer the tough, military/utilitarian, less conspicuous vibe of the Airbrake, massive as it is. I may try and have it behind or beside the amp, on the floor. Not the best for adjustments on the fly, but I'm mostly a set-it-and-leave-it kind of guy, anyways.

Also, forgot to mention, and much more importantly - I was very (begrudgingly) pleased with the Airbrake's performance. I've had bad experiences with other attenuators (Hot Plate, Ultimate/Ho), and this one absolutely kills those.

I use to put the air-brake in my z-28 2x10 comb between the speakers. Took the rubber feet off put velcro down and it did not move.

I don't get this thread at all. Why are some, who shall remain nameless, concerned about the "real estate" on top of the amp? Are you putting guitars up there? Aside from a few picks, a slide, a tuner, and a capo. What else NEEDS to be on top of your amp? We've all grown used to lugging and amp from gig to gig. I don't see a little box that weighs about a pound being an issue.

I don't have a problem with the Air Brake size for the most part- although it can be an issue with smaller amps like the Galaxie.
How you wonder-?
Well, I was using an Air Brake and a Fulltone Tube Tape Echo with my Galaxie head and Z-best cab. This is a tricky configuration when both are set on top- no real estate left for picks, capos, slides, etc and questionable if the setup was to vibrate dramatically. Often I would set the TTE on the floor, but who would want to set a $1200 tape delay on a floor where a bass player or stagehand could smash it or spill beer on it...
That said, mostly the size of the Air Brake is a non-issue and it has the added advantage of not requiring A/C (like the Bad Cat Leash needs) as well as looking cool too.
So if don't have room for it, put it on the floor, mount it inside a cabinet or turn it sideways. Or get a Bad Cat Leash- it is significantly smaller and sounds good too.

It should not go on top of the amp. That is where the beer bottles go.

I've been putting mine right beside my Z Best cab, or right beside my 4x12 cab. I like it now, looks like some kind of old WWII bomb I've got ready for emergencies. LOL!
