Ever since I got my Maz Jr a few weeks back, my Rivera amp has been staying at home. The Ghia sounds like a totally different amp, and the clips on the Z web site sound awesome. You guys are making me want one real bad. Most gigs I play I can usually runs some guitar through the monitor system if I need too, so I think I could make the Ghia work. Should I sell my old 50 watt Rivera Knucklehead head, in order to get a Ghia. It has good cleans too, just different. What do you guys think?

Paul is a great guy but the 30 watt, reverb, 1x12 Rivera combo I had which tried to be a switchable Fender/Marshall fell down on both counts. Everything about it was dark and harsh. No sweet tones whatsoever. This was my experience with just one amp so it's entirely possible they build better amps than mine. But compared to a Ghia? Not a chance. Most amps amplify. A Z is a musical instrument.

The cleans are only to a certain volume level, although using an overpowered ceramic speaker and lower-gain tube sets will get you more "clean" headroom. With the Ghia, I find that instead of channel switching, you just make your attack way lighter or roll off the guitar volume some. Or turn off your pedals.

....cleans are not what a Ghia is all about but if you play as i do in some low volume situations the cleans are very nice and sweet sounding, just not loud....on the the other hand if you want the rich corpulent tube saturated tone at usable volume levels the Ghia has no equal that i know of....for club dates bar gigs and jam sessions with the mates its the most usable amp i've found...i also dumped my Rivera in favor of a Ghia....i also tried/owned a Rt 66, a Maz Jr and a Z-28 but came back to the Ghia.....i love that Tone knob.....

EVERYBODY needs a Ghia No doubt. A lot of amps I've owned have come and gone, and the Ghia has stood by me through all of it. squeallydan, I think a Ghia would be a great compliment to a Maz Jr... but you might find yourself not using the Maz Jr. as much if you get the Ghia.

Hey Peach...did ya notice your old cab in my post to Myles in the general forum ?? Curt - I just saw that man! Awesome!!! I just finally got a digicam, so your old red Z-Best will undoubtedly be making a cameo on this forum in the not-too-distant future. Just waiting for a couple other things to "come together" before I post pics.

I have a Maz Jr. which I love but I always wanted a Ghia for its rich bottom end and simplicity. In addition to the usual rock and country gigs, I also play jazz through an archtop and this swayed me from the Ghia's lack of headroom. However, I can't turn the Maz up much anyway because of feedback from the archtop. Has anyone tried a hollow body through the Ghia at low jazz club volume? I undestand the Ghia is quite clean until about 10:00.
